ZOAR VILLAGE, Ohio – The Capital University men's golf team started the season with a solid showing at the Gatorade Invitational over the weekend, finishing fifth after 36 holes at the Zoar Village Golf Course.
ROUND ONE | 293
The Comets got off to a strong start in round one with their top two players
Keegan Billingham and
Nolan Frey shooting one under par at 71 strokes overall. This left both Billingham and Frey tied for third individually.
Cole Crandall came in at one over par with a 73, followed by
Ryan Murphy with a six-over 78 finish off the Capital scorecard at 293 and put the Purple and White in third place.
Cam Donahue shot seven over at 79.
ROUND TWO | 304 | 597 TOTAL
CU would struggle a bit on day two, ultimately dropping to a fifth place finish after a team round of 304, totalling 597 through the 36 holes.
Nolan Frey rounded out his stellar outing with a two-over 74 for a 145 overall and a T-2 finish.
Keegan Billingham and
Cole Crandall would both finish T-16 at 149. Crandall scored a 76 for round two while Billingham had a 78.
Cam Donahue would drop three strokes in the second round, shooting a 76 to finish T-32 at 155.
Ryan Murphy finished day two with a 79, ending up 37th overall at 157.
COMMENTS FROM COACH GARCIA
"Great experience today. Got ourselves to compete early in the season and found ourselves in contention after yesterday, but the putts didn't fall today. Nice barometer to see where we are at, and we will clean it up tomorrow at ONU."
