MARIETTA, Ohio – The Capital University golf teams took on the Pioneer Classic on Saturday and Sunday, traveling east to the Marietta Country Club to compete. The men's team came in at the top of the leaderboard with the second-lowest 36-hole score in Capital history at 578, shooting 298 in round one and the third-lowest 18-score of 288 in round two. The women's team would finish fourth in their five-team field with a first round of 389 and a second round of 358 for a total of 745.

Capital's men's outing started off strong on Saturday as
Ben Satterthwaite paced the team with a score of 69 on the first 18 holes. Next was
Jack Curtis at 72, followed by
Keegan Billingham at 74 and
Adam Czerniakowski at 75 to complete the scorecard at 290, already leading the competition and 13 strokes ahead of second place.
Adam Murphy made a 76 in his first round.
The Comets stayed hot on day two, starting with Billingham breaking the program's 18-hole record with a 66 in the second round. He and Satterthwaite – who shot a 71 – would end up tying for the individual title with overall scores of 140, the second-lowest 36-hole score in program history. Czerniakowski came home with a 74 in round two, finishing T-9th at 149 with teammate Curtis who shot 77. Curtis would complete the scorecard at 288 for round two – the third-lowest 18-hole score in team history – and secure the win at a total of 578. Murphy also shot a 77 in the second round, finishing T-23rd at 153.
WOMEN (389-358 | 745 | 4TH PLACE)
CU's women's side struggled a bit on day one, posting a team score of 389, five strokes behind the hosts Marietta.
Mariah Cotsamire shot a 91 to lead the team in the first round. Next it was
Hannah Frey with a 96, followed by
Emma Konopa at 98, and
Avery Fish at 104 to complete the scorecard. Abigail Crisler scored a 107.
The Purple and White would put together a comeback on day two, led by Konopa's 83, a 15-stroke drop from day one. She finished with an overall score of 181. Frey followed suit by dropping seven strokes, shooting 89 in the second round and finishing with a 185. Cotsamire and Fish both put up second round scores of 93, finishing off the team score of 358, a 31-stroke improvement over the first round. Cotsamire finished with a 184 while Fish finished with a 197 to round out the Capital scorecard at 745 to jump Marietta for fourth place.

The men's side will be back in action tomorrow at the Otterbein Spring Classic at the Northstar Golf Club in Delaware. The women will have to wait until April 19th and 20th when they compete in the Defiance Spring Invitational at Moose Landing Country Club in Ottawa.
