OCEAN ISLAND BEACH, N.C. – The Capital University men's and women's golf teams received invitations to participate in the 2024 Pfeiffer Spring Invitational being hosted in Ocean Island Beach, North Carolina at Panther's Run Golf Course.
MEN
The Comets fielded two squads in a loaded field of 17 teams that included some of the higher quality golf programs across the country. The "A" team consisting of
Jack Curtis,
Adam Murphy,
Ben Satterthwaite,
Keegan Billingham and
Adam Czerniakowski combined to finish seventh with a two round score of 631 on the par 72 course. The team put together nearly identical rounds of 316 and 315 to make up their score.
Curtis and Murphy shot carbon copy rounds as they both finished in a tie for 17th with scores of 79 and 77, equalling 156. Satterthwaite shot 78 and 81 to score 159 (T-31st). Billingham put up a 36-hole score of 160 after shooting a pair of 80s to place T-35th. Czerniakowski scored 90-87–177 to place T-81st.
Making up the "B" team was the group of
Ricky Walsh,
Aidan Isaac,
Cam Donahue,
Ryan Murphy and
Nolan Frey. This group shot a two-round score of 659 after rounds of 331 and 328 to place 14th overall.
Walsh was the Comets top finisher on the day, placing T-10th after scoring a 153 for the event. His rounds scored 75 and 78. Isaac had a solid showing as well, scoring 77-80–157 to place T-22nd. Donahue scored rounds of 89 and 84 to place T-73rd, while Murphy (90-87–177) and Frey (93-86–179) rounded out the showing.
Belmont Abbey College won the team standings with a two-round score of 603 (303-300). Covenant College's Drew Silman was the medalist scoring a 71-76–147 scorecard.
WOMEN
The Comet women had a solid showing over the two days, scoring a team total of 722 after rounds of 357 and 365. As a team, Capital placed ninth out of 13 teams amongst the strong field.
Hannah Frey was Cap's top golfer on the weekend, submitting a scorecard reading 82-90–172 to place T-28th. Her round of 82 was a career-best.
Mariah Cotsamire placed T-38th after scoring identical rounds of 90 to combine for 180.
Emma Konopa was one stroke off Cotsamire, scoring 90-91–181 to place T-42nd.
Avery Fish placed T-54th after consistent rounds of 95 and 94 (189).
Abby Crisler finished up T-71st after scoring 112 and 115.
Camryn Mauter competed as an individual and placed 66th overall with a two-day score of 216 (117 and 99).
Coastal Georgia finished as the top team, scoring rounds of 314 and 310 to combine for 624. Madelyn Taylor of Coastal Georgia and Lilli Caroline Tambu of Averett University tied for medalist honors with scores of 149.
UP NEXT
Both squads will stay in North Carolina and play some exhibition golf in the Sunset Beach area to practice over the next week. Upon returning to Ohio, the women will next compete on March 23rd at the OAC Spring Preview, and after that, the men will return to action on April 6th for their OAC Spring Preview.
