Box Score STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team benefited from two second half goals from
Jack Kossoudji to complete a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Franciscan University on Monday night.
The Comets (3-1) got on the board first in just the fourth minute of action thanks to a goal from
Devon Hess.
Derrick Harris sent a corner kick into the penalty area where the ball fell to the foot of Hess who slammed it home from just six yards out.
The lead for Capital wouldn't last long as the Barons equalized in the 14th minute through a strike from Augustine Rubino.
Most of the first half saw both teams with their fair share of chances, but the Barons (4-3) would move in front in the 43rd minute thanks to Rubino's second of the contest.
Out of the half, Capital upped their pressure, but were still set to deal with quality attacking play by the Barons. Despite the chances from the hosts, Capital got a way back into the match in the 59th minute as a
Jack Kossoudji shot caught the arm of a defender, earning a penalty kick for the Comets. Kossoudji himself stepped up and converted to the goalkeeper's left, tying the match at 2-2.
Capital kept their foot down and pressed for a winner. Eventually, the momentum paid off as
Zade Awad won the ball near midfield and then dribbled forward and sent a stunning through ball to the foot of Kossoudji who took a settling touch and then calmly slotted a left footed shot past the on-rushing goalkeeper.
The second-half turnaround for the Comets allowed them to get back in the win column after they suffered their first loss of the season this past Saturday at Case Western Reserve.
The game featured plenty of offense as Franciscan took 22 shots to Capital's 23 attempts. The Comets slung 12 shots on target, while eight found the frame for the Barons.
Ethan Ogden made five saves on the night in addition to a stellar stop on a ricochet off his own defender just minutes before Kossoudji's winning goal.
Capital will look to keep the good times going this coming Saturday, September 16th as they host Wittenberg University for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Bernlohr Stadium.
