HINCKLEY/ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Capital University golf teams were both in action on Sunday, the men at the Baldwin Wallace Invitational in Hinckley, and the women at the Mount Union Fall Invitational in Alliance. Both teams shot well and are on pace for a great season.

The men's squad took to the course at Pine Hills Golf Club, shooting 302 as a team. Ben Satterthwaite led the Comets, shooting -1 with a 71 on the par 72 course. Cam Donahue followed up with a 75, joined by Adam Murphy with a 77 and Jack Curtis with a 79. Adam Czerniakowski also shot a 79, but was not included in the team score.

On the women's side of things, the Purple and White posted a team score of 364 at Tannenhauf Golf Club. Freshman Emma Konopa had quite the debut on the course, leading Capital with an 88. The rest of the Comets were close behind, Mariah Cotsamire with a 90, Hannah Frey with a 92, and Avery Fish with a 94. Abbie Crisler shot 102, and freshman Camryn Mauter shot 105 in her first round for Cap, neither were calculated into the team score.

QUOTES FROM COACH GARCIA
ABOUT THE MEN: "Ben was awesome today. Shooting a -1 round on a course you've never seen before is never easy. Nice to get everyone reps today live in a tournament and this early in the year you are really seeing guys step up trying to earn that starting lineup spot. Nice to see the momentum carry on from last week but I know this team isn't just happy with having some solid rounds, they want to win and we will continue to work hard, learn from our mistakes, and make sure we peak at the right times. The development of some of the younger guys has been fun to watch but also guys like Cam, Adam Murphy, and vets like Adam Czerniakowski who are now being called upon show the depth and maturity of this team."

ABOUT THE WOMEN: "So proud of this team. They worked so hard this summer and turned weaknesses from last year into strengths. Mariah and Hannah's leadership with this young group has really helped lay the foundation for a successful run this year. Emma pacing us today was huge and for a freshman to lead us shows that the future is very bright. The effort today was incredible, obviously we have to clean up some mistakes but beating three OAC schools today shows the true potential of this team early in the season."

UP NEXT
Capital's women's team will be back on the course this upcoming weekend, competing in the Heidelberg Fall Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the Fostoria Country Club in Fostoria. Next on tap for the men will be their home tournament, the Capital Fall Invitational for Morgan's Message on September 24 and 25 at the Westchester Golf Course in Canal Winchester.
