INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Capital University softball senior
Lexie Leggett put together one of the better offensive seasons a player could have this past spring and those efforts have been rewarded with two NCAA Statistical Championships.
In a season that saw the Chardon, Ohio native hit .464 with 45 hits on 97 at-bats to go with 12 doubles, a triple and 13 home runs, Leggett led all of NCAA Division III in two categories – slugging percentage and home runs per game.
Leggett's slugging percentage of 1.010 was the only percentage from any of the NCAA's three divisions to surpass the 1.000 mark.
Additionally, her mark of 0.42 home runs per game topped Division III, beating out the second best total of 0.36. Leggett mashed 13 home runs in 31 games this season, including two games with two home runs each.
Leggett, who finished the year as an Academic All-American, an All-OAC first teamer and an All-Region second team honoree, is Capital's first statistical champion in softball since at least 2015 when LeAnna Cotton topped the nation in both RBIs and RBIs per game.
The Comets finished the 2023 season 15-17 overall which marked a 10-win improvement on the previous season.
