COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University football head coach
Brian Foos has announced the addition of three assistant coaches to his staff. D'Gary Wallace will return to the program and serve as the Co-Defensive Coordinator alongside
Jonathan Black, while Adam Parsons will join the program as the Outside Linebackers Coach and D.L. Knock will take over the Wide Receiver room. Wallace will also manage Special Teams and work with the Defensive Backs.
D'Gary Wallace rejoins Capital's coaching staff having recently served as the linebackers coach during the spring 2021 season. That year, Wallace coached All-OAC selection
Nick Fisanick and facilitated team camps. Since departing Capital, Wallace has served as the Nickels Coach for Arkansas-Pine Bluff, the Defensive Pass Game Coordinator at Defiance College and Wilmington College and most recently as the Defensive Coordinator for Defiance.
Along with his defensive responsibilities at the various stops, Wallace has held roles as an Assistant Head Coach, a Special Teams Coordinator, a Recruiting Coordinator, an Academic Coordinator and a Video Coordinator.
While at Arkansas Pine-Bluff, Wallace assisted the team in achieving the #6 ranked FCS school in defensive touchdown, the #7 FCS school in pass break-ups, and a top-five ranked special teams unit in blocked punts and field goals.
At Defiance, Wallace helped guide the team to top-three rankings in the HCAC in total tackles for a loss and sacks while also guiding the defense to 20 sacks and more than 10 forced turnovers for the first time since 2010. The 2022 season also marked the most successful season for the Yellow Jackets since 2015. There, he mentored All-Region linebacker Thomas Coltrain and many other weekly and postseason award winners.
Prior to coming to Capital in 2021, Wallace coached at Dunbar High School, Cincinnati Christian University, and at his alma mater Urbana University.
As a student-athlete at Urbana, Wallace was a two-time AFCA All-American and was named a Cliff Harris Award Finalist in 2015.
In the coaching realm, Wallace has been named to the NCAA Emerging Leaders list in 2021, the NCAA/NFL Administrators Academy in 2022 and to the Football Scoop Minority Watch List/Rising Stars list in 2022.
Also joining the staff as the outside linebackers coach is Adam Parsons who joins the staff after several seasons in the high school coaching ranks. Most recently, Parsons oversaw the running backs and defensive line at Parkersburg South High School where he helped lead the team to the West Virginia AAA State Championship game and the school's first conference title since 1975.
Prior to that stop, Parsons was the offensive line coach at Parkersburg High School and helped guide an o-line that committed just one penalty all season and blocked for the school's all-time record holder in total yards.
Before coaching at Parkersburg, Parsons was the lineman coach and head JV coach for Christian County High School, then the lineman coach and JV defensive coordinator for Weir High School and an O-Line and run game coordinator for John Marshall High School. Those three programs advanced to the state playoffs under his assistance.
Parsons played college football for West Liberty University as the smallest offensive lineman in Division II football that season. An injury in 2016 forced Parsons from the game as a player, but that enabled him to kickstart his coaching career. He holds a degree in history from West Liberty University.
D.L. Knock makes the jump to Capital University after most recently working as the wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator at Alderson Broaddus University. There, Knock oversaw the team's equipment operations and was an academic advisor for his position group. He also coached a freshman to All-Conference honors in 2022.
Prior to joining AB, Knock was the wide receivers coach and pass game/special teams coordinator at Waynesburg University. Prior to working on the offensive side of the ball, Knock spent the 2020 season coaching linebackers for Waynesburg. Knock was an academic advisor for his position group and helped organize and run the team's weight training program.
As a collegiate player, Knock played his red shirt year at West Virginia University in 2015 prior to playing the final four years of his career at Ohio University. With WVU, Knock was a member of the 2015 Cactus Bowl Champion team. At OU, Knock was an All-Conference selection and helped the team to the 2016 MAC Championship and Dollar General Bowl Championship. Additionally, Knock helped the Bobcats to trophies in the 2017 Bahamas Bowl, 2018 Frisco Bowl, and 2020 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
Knock played his high school ball at Springboro High School where he was a 2023 Hall of Fame inductee. He helped his team to a 28-2 regular season record during his tenure and was an All-State selection and team captain.
All three coaches have already begun their work on Coach Foos' staff preparing for the 2023 season which kicks off at home vs. Denison on Saturday, September 2nd.
