INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – As announced in the NCAA Selection Show on Monday at 10:30 a.m., the Capital University women's lacrosse team is traveling to Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia to take on Transylvania University in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
Should Capital advance to the second round, they will face the hosts, Washington & Lee. Transylvania earned the HCAC's automatic bid, while No. 2 ranked Washington & Lee won the ODAC's automatic bid.
This weekend's meetings will be the fifth time Capital and Transylvania squared off in women's lacrosse. The Comets hold a 3-1 edge in the all-time series, most recently defeating Transy 21-10 in 2022. Should Capital advance to play the host Generals, the two sides will meet for the first time in women's lacrosse.
The Comets, who ended the season 10-4, earned the OAC's automatic bid to the tournament for the second consecutive year after defeating Mount Union in the OAC Championship this past Saturday. Capital had previously been 0-4 against the Purple Raiders in the Championship game and have now defeated Mount once in each of the last two seasons.
A year ago in their NCAA Tournament debut, Capital traveled to the University of Chicago for the First and Second rounds where they defeated Hamline 21-4 in the opening game before falling to Chicago 19-14 in the second round.
More details surrounding the first round match-up will be announced to athletics.capital.edu throughout the week as final arrangements with the host institution are made.
