Poling’s School Record Highlights Great Day for Track and Field

ASHLAND, Ohio – The Capital University track and field program traveled to Ashland University's Alumni Open on Friday and Saturday afternoons to compete. There, the Comets put forth numerous high quality performances, highlighted by Alexa Poling's school record in the women's hammer throw. 

In addition to Poling's record, Capital put up four other program top-10 times and narrowly missed out on several others. 

Below is a highlight of the weekend performances. 

MEN
Javelin: Andy Fullmer placed sixth overall with his best throw registering 44.59 meters. Jason McColl marked 35.22 meters in his attempt. 

100m Dash: Dom Glenn and Kaden Lowe qualified to the finals of the 100 meter dash, where Lowe finished 13th in a time of 11.29 seconds and Glenn did not start. Glenn did clock in a time of 11.02 seconds in his qualifying heat which seeded him fourth overall and moved him into 10th on the all-time list in the event at Capital. 

3,000m Steeplechase: Donovan Slattery ran his way to second in the event with a time of 9:48.21 which is a new PR and moves him from third to second on the program top-10 list in the event. His time leapfrogs him over Aaron Folsom's time of 9:50.24 run in 1975. 

4x100m Relay: The quartet of Ishmael Young, Daniel McCormack, Dom Glenn, and Daniel Hiser clocked in a time of 42.11 seconds, good for the fourth best 4x100 time in program history. The group finished third in the event. 

400m Dash: Dylan Dowell ran a time of 53.34 seconds and Wesley Triplett clocked in at 54.11 seconds. 

800m Run: Nick Stuck (2:12.70), Jeremiah Smith (2:12.78) and Zach Brown (2:23.54) compiled a trio of Comets in the two-lap race. 

200m Dash: Ben Char clocked in a time of 22.90 seconds, just about eight tenths off the top-10 list. Aiden Edwards (24.01s) and Kelly Wilson II (24.27s) also competed in the event. 

5,000m Run: Zach Glotzbecker finished 16th in 16:38.22. Zach Brown also ran and finished in 18:13.61. 

4x400m Relay: The foursome of Kaden Lowe, Ishmael Young, Dom Glenn and Daniel McCormack finished fourth in 3:23.96 – just seven tenths of a second off the top-10 list. 

Long Jump: Dylan Dowell placed sixteen 6.70 meters – just .04 meters from the top-10 list in program history. Kelly Wilson II (6.14m), Zion Park (5.95m), Aiden Edwards (5.92m) and Daniel Hiser (5.58m) also competed. 

Shot Put: Marvin Jean-Denis tossed 14.66 meters to place eighth. Jon Kirk was 15th with a heave of 12.88 meters. 

Discus: Waylon Yeager threw 35.27 meters and Jean-Denis (32.53m) and Toren Smith (29.96m) followed. 

WOMEN
Hammer Throw: Alexa Poling launched a new school record hammer throw, recording a distance of 49.39 meters, surpassing the previous record by Kassie Lee of 47.59 meters. The mark came on Poling's fifth attempt and landed her second overall in the extremely competitive field of throwers. Lily Purdon also put forth a monster throw, landing her attempt at 42.54 meters, good to move into seventh all-time in the event for Capital. 

3,000m Steeplechase: Elizabeth Mak placed fourth in a small field of runners but ran a 10-second PR, moving from sixth to fifth on the program all-time list in the event. Her time clocked in at 12:36.53. 

4x100m Relay: Hanna Bauer, Maria Da Cunha, Larissa Agbor-Nkongho, and Cece Samuels ran a time of 50.89 seconds to place seventh. 

400m Dash: Maria Da Cunha clocked a time of 1:03.52. 

800m Run: Alexa Daley clocked in a time of 2:28.72 – just over a second off the program top-10 list. 

200m Dash: Claire Larger ran a time of 28.76 seconds. 

4x400m Relay: Hanna Bauer, Alexa Daley, Olivia Humes and Maria Da Cunha finished third in 4:!5.91. 

Long Jump: Claire Larger leaped 4.48 meters and Olivia Humes jumped 4.37 meters. 

Shot Put: Alexa Poling threw 11.26 meters for seventh overall. Lily Purdon (10.98m), Grace Heckenlively (10.54m) and Deivon McCullough (10.28m) followed. 

Discus: Heckenlively led the four throwers in the discus throw with a distance of 34.24 meters. Purdon threw 33.01 meters, Poling marked 30.04m and McCullough tossed 23.28m. 

High Jump: Kennedi Hendricks jumped 1.48 meters to placed 13th. 

UP NEXT
Capital now shifts their focus to the OAC Championships that will take place next Thursday and Friday (May 4th-5th) at the University of Mount Union.
