WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Not finishing up their competition at the Otterbein Twilight meet until nearly 1 a.m., the Capital University track and field team battled two lightning delays and a multitude of other factors while competing.
Despite the challenges and delays, the squad put forth quality performances including three program top-10 performances.
MEN
Pole Vault:
Zion Park cleared the bar at a new personal best height of 4.66 meters to place second overall. His mark of 4.66 meters moves him up from fourth on the all-time list to second best in Capital history. The top spot remains at 4.86 meters set by Doug Gibbons in 2009.
Wesley Triplett placed fifth with a height of 4.21 meters, while
Andy Fullmer came in seventh with a height of 4.06 meters.
Shot Put:
Marvin Jean-Denis won the event by more than half a meter, throwing his best mark at 14.84 meters. Jon Kirk was next for Capital in fifth with a heave of 13.15 meters.
Waylon Yeager also threw, registering 11.08 meters.
Long Jump:
Aiden Edwards and
Wesley Triplett jumped nearly identically with Edwards leaping 5.71 meters and Triplett jumping 5.68 meters.
110m Hurdles:
Kelly Wilson II qualified in the prelims third overall with a time of 15.59 seconds. He did not run in the finals unfortunately.
100m Dash:
Daniel Hiser placed 10th in 11.18 seconds and was followed by
Ishmael Young (11.36s),
Ben Char (11.47s), and
Dylan Dowell (11.50s).
4x100m Relay: The foursome of
Dom Glenn,
Ben Char,
Ishmael Young and
Daniel Hiser won the event in 42.58 seconds – a near half of a second ahead of second place.
400m Dash:
Daniel McCormack placed eighth in 51.29 seconds.
Jeremiah Smith also ran, running a time of 57.68 seconds.
Javelin:
Jason McColl threw 40.29 meters to place fourth overall.
400m Hurdles: A trio of Comets filled the top-eight as
Kaden Lowe took third in 1:01.71,
Andy Fullmer was sixth in 1:03.15 and
Kelly Wilson II was seventh in 1:04.53.
5000m Run:
Donovan Slattery moved himself up the Capital all-time list, running a time of 15:31.87. The time moves him from his previous best of 15:45.48 (ninth all-time) up to sixth all-time.
Zach Glotzbecker clocked in a 16:13.70, while
Zach Brown ran a 18:05.84.
4x400m Relay: The quartet of
Kaden Lowe,
Ishmael Young,
Nick Stuck and
Daniel McCormack raced to second overall with a time of 3:32.14.
WOMEN
High Jump:
Kennedi Hendricks placed eighth overall after clearing the bar at a height of 1.48 meters.
Pole Vault:
Bella McCarty vaulted a height of 2.78 meters.
Hammer Throw:
Alexa Poling tossed 43.72 meters to place sixth.
Lily Purdon was ninth with a throw of 39.00 meters.
100m Hurdles:
Maria Da Cunha was 12th in 16.85 seconds.
100m Dash:
Cece Samuels finished 11th in 13.21 seconds and was followed by Olivia HUmes (13.72 seconds) and Ernisha Guerrier (14.03s).
4x100m Relay: The quartet of
Maria Da Cunha,
Claire Larger,
Hanna Bauer and
Cece Samuels placed fifth in 51.28 seconds.
800m Run:
Alexa Daley placed 12th in 2:29.99.
Shot Put:
Lily Purdon finished sixth after throwing 11.28 meters. Alex Poling was 10th in 10.92 meters. Those two were followed by
Grace Heckenlively (10.40m) and Deivon McCullough (9.57m).
400m Hurdles:
Maria Da Cunha placed eighth overall in 1:18.44.
5000m Run:
Elizabeth Mak ran a time of 21:06.55.
