MARIETTA, Ohio – Battling snow and cold temperatures, the Capital University golf programs ventured to Marietta Country Club this weekend to play in the Pioneer Classic, hosted by Marietta College. The two-day event was shortened to one day as temperatures sank too low to play on Sunday.
On the men's side,
Angelo Donato paced the team with a sixth place finish, while
Mariah Cotsamire led the women with a ninth place finish. Both teams placed fourth out of six teams in the event.
WOMEN
As mentioned, Cotsamire – the OAC's reigning Golfer of the Week – shot a solid round of 94 across the 18 holes.
Avery Fish shot a score of 96 – a career low for the freshman. The score put her in a tie for 11th overall – a personal best finish.
Hannah Frey was the next placer for Capital, finishing T-17th with a score of 99.
Abby Crisler rounded out the golfing, finishing 31st with a score of 113.
As a team, the Comets circled the course with a score of 402. Capital placed above both Baldwin Wallace and Marietta in the team standings.
MEN
The Comet men were led by Donato's sixth place finish. The senior shot a score of 77 on the course.
Donato was followed by
Vince Daher – the OAC's reigning Golfer of the Week for the men. Daher finished T-10th with a score of 79.
Ricky Walsh shot an 80 over the 18 holes to place in a tie for 15th.
Jack Curtis was right on his heels placing 23rd with a score of 83.
Ben Satterthwaite was just one stroke off Curtis with an 84, finishing tied for 24th.
As a team, Capital scored 319 to place fourth out of six teams, finishing above Saint Vincent and Marietta.

The men's golf team will take to River Greens Golf Club on Sunday, March 26th for the River Greens Invitational, while the women will head to Zanesville Country Club on Monday, March 27th for the Muskingum Invitational.
