LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Capital University track and field program ventured to Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky on Friday, March 17th to begin their 2023 outdoor season.
Of the 11 teams competing in the event, the Comets were the only Division III school in the field consisting primarily of NCAA DI, DII, and NAIA opponents.
Below is a summary of the performances:
WOMEN
100m Dash:
Erniesha Guerrier (13.70 seconds),
Claire Larger (13.82 seconds) and
Olivia Humes (14.04 seconds) competed in the sprints.
200m Dash: Guerrier (29.42 seconds) and Humes (30.48s) competed for Capital.
800m Run:
Elizabeth Mak took to the course and completed the two laps in 2:44.53.
1500m Run: Mak went the four-lap race in 5:29.35 for her second distance event of the day.
400m Hurdles:
Maria Da Cunha took the full lap of hurdles and finished in 1:16.23.
4x100m Relay: The quartet of
Hanna Bauer,
Cece Samuels, Da Cunha, and
Larissa Agbor-Nkongho finished second with a time of 52.26 seconds.
High Jump:
Kennedi Hendricks placed in a tie for second, clearing the bar at 1.40 meters.
Discus Throw:
Grace Heckenlively finished eighth with a distance of 28.75 meters. Deivon McCullough threw 19.40 meters for her best try.
Shot Put:
Lily Purdon placed third with her furthest throw registering 10.82 meters. Heckenlively was eighth with a toss of 10.12 meters.
MEN
100m Dash: A host of Comets raced the 100 sprint –
Daniel Hiser (11.32s),
Xavier Jennings (11.39s),
Ben Char (11.42s),
Dylan Dowell (11.45s),
Daniel McCormack (11.73s),
Andy Fullmer (11.75s),
Kelly Wilson II (11.88s),
Simon Smith (11.91s),
Aiden Edwards (12.27s), and
Jeremiah Smith (12.54s).
200m Dash: A large contingent of Comets again raced the 200 sprint – Char paced the group finishing fourth in 23.40 seconds, followed by Hiser (23.87s), McCormack (24.17s), Jennings (24.38s), Dowell (24.55s), Edwards (25.41s), S. Smith (25.42s), J. Smith (25.52s), and
Nick Stuck (26.03s).
400m Dash:
Nick Stuck and
Josh Kucker took the full lap sprint. Stuck finished in 55.53 seconds, while Kucker crossed the line in 57.03 seconds.
5,000m Run:
Donovan Slattery finished ninth in the 5K in a time of 15:50.12.
Zach Glotzbecker and
Zach Brown also finished with Zach G. finishing in 16:52.82 and Zach B. crossing the line in 18:40.70.
400m Hurdles:
Kaden Lowe placed second in the 400 hurdles in a time of 59.84 seconds.
4x100m Relay: The quartet of
Dom Glenn,
Daniel Hiser,
Ishmael Young and
Ben Char won the event in a time of 42.90 seconds.
High Jump:
Josh Kucker won the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.70 meters.
Discus:
Marvin Jean-Denis and
Toren Smith finished just by each other as Jean-Denis tossed 28.60 meters and Smith threw 23.78 meters.
Javelin:
Jason McColl placed eighth with a far throw of 37.13 meters.
Shot Put: Jean-Denis placed third in the shot with his best throw marking 13.39 meters.
Waylon Yeager (10.19 meters) and
Andy Fullmer (9.26 meters) also threw in the event.
