Multiple Records, Top-10 Marks Beaten at Spire for Track and Field

GENEVA, Ohio – Days don't come much better for the Capital University track and field teams as they put forth a slew of program Top-10 times and even broke two school records in their efforts at the Spire Midwest Open.

Those school records went the way of Donovan Slattery in the men's 5,000m run and Kelly Wilson II in the men's 60m hurdles.

Aside from the two school records, Comet student-athletes either established new program all-time marks or bettered their own previous top-10 mark 11 times today across the various events.

"We had a couple of meets on our schedule that were eyed for our student-athletes to run fast," said head coach BT Pham. "Spire was one of those meets because of their state-of-the-art facility and everyone executed beautifully."

More on the outstanding performances can be found below.

MEN
5,000m Run: Junior Donovan Slattery shattered the Capital school record as he clocked in a time of 15:33.97, surpassing the previous record of 15:56.31 by nearly 30 seconds. That previous record was set by Bret Nehrenz in 2013. Freshman Zach Glotzbecker was also keen to put his name on the leaderboard as his time of 16:42.78 now sits him eighth all-time in Capital history.

60m Hurdles: As if running a 8.72 second prelim time, Kelly Wilson upped his pace and beat his own school record in the finals by clocking a time of 8.51 seconds. The time surpassed his previous record of 8.60 seconds that he ran in 2020.

60m Dash: Ishmael Young made his return to the lineup and ran a team-best 7.18 seconds, just .05 seconds off his previous best in the event. Dom Glenn ran a new personal best and moved up to a tie for sixth all-time in Capital history as he clocked in a run of 7.20 seconds. His time levels him with Brennen Hennings who ran the time in 2014. Ben Char also competed and ran a time of 7.37 seconds.

400m Dash: Daniel McCormack clocked in a time of 51.13 seconds while pegs him into sixth fastest in Capital history. His time beat out Desmond Taylor's 51.29 ran in 2007. McCormack was followed in the event by Kaden Lowe who clocked in the ninth fastest time in Cap history with a 51.39 second mark. His time beats out Brian Pelanda's 51.47 ran in 2006. Also competing in the event were Nick Stuck (54.61) and Jeremiah Smith (56.66).

200m Dash: Ishmael Young moves up from seventh to fifth best in program history in the 200m dash. Previously, his best was 23.06 and today, he clocked in a time of 22.91 seconds beating out teammate Daniel Hiser who has yet to run this season due to injury. Dom Glenn again followed Young and put his name on the all-time list as he ran a time of 23.02 seconds, good for seventh all-time in the event. He is just .01 seconds off sixth best Andrew Appelt who ran 23.01 in 2012. Kaden Lowe (23.40), Ben Char (23.51) and Kelly Wilson (24.43) rounded out the competitors for Cap.
