COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University track and field programs competed on their home track for a second time in two meets to start the 2022-23 indoor season this afternoon. Today's meet featured a larger selection of opposition as six schools and a handful of running clubs participated in the meet.
In the meet several Comets took first overall in their respective events and others hit top-10 all-time program marks. A summary of those and other top performances can be found below.
MEN
Pole Vault:
Zion Park took first overall with a vault of 4.30m. His attempts at the number two spot on the all-time Capital record board fell just short, but nonetheless he won the event by more than .30 meters.
Wesley Triplett finished fifth with a vault of 3.85m.
Long Jump: Freshman
Dylan Dowell placed fourth overall with a top jump of 6.42m. The leap was good enough to surpass a pair of Capital jumpers for the 10th best long jump in program history. Previously, Gerald Bailey and Desmond Taylor held a tie for 10th with a mark of 6.38m.
Andy Fullmer jumped a matching distance of 6.38m today and is currently just one spot ahead of Dowell on the all-time list with his personal best long jump marking 6.50m.
One Mile:
Donovan Slattery placed fifth overall with a time of 4:36.62 which is a new personal best. He remains sixth best on the all-time Capital list with the time.
Zach Glotzbecker won his heat with a time of 4:53.20.
Shot Put: Jon Kirk placed eighth with a toss of 12.35m.
Marvin Jean-Denis (11.87m),
Jesse Foster (10.84m),
Toren Smith (9.84m) and
Andy Fullmer (9.84m) also competed.
High Jump:
Andy Fullmer finished third with a high jump of 1.76m.
400m Dash:
Kaden Lowe placed fifth (52.89 seconds) and
Daniel McCormack (52.90) finished sixth.
60m Dash:
Dom Glenn placed 12th overall in the event with a time of 7.26 seconds which places him in a tie for the 10th fastest 60m dash in program history. He sits level with Corey Easley who clocked the time in 2011.
Ben Char was next in the event with a time of 7.33 seconds.
Andy Fullmer (7.42),
Dylan Dowell (7.46) and Kelly Wilson (7.65) were the other competitors for Cap.
200m Dash:
Ben Char led the Comets with a fourth place finish in a time of 23.35 seconds.
Dom Glenn was next with a time of 23.44 seconds.
Ishmael Young was eighth in a time of 23.84 seconds.
Dylan Dowell (24.24) and Kelly Wilson (25.36) were the other competitors in the event.
800m Run:
Donovan Slattery,
Nick Stuck,
Zach Glotzbecker and
Jeremiah Smith finished in a bunch, placing eighth, ninth, 10th and 12th respectively. Slattery clocked in at 2:10.37, Stuck at 2:12.11, Glotzbecker at 2:13.60 and Smith at 2:14.87.
3,000m Run:
Zach Brown placed fifth with a time of 10:22.30.
4x400m Relay: The foursome of
Daniel McCormack,
Kaden Lowe,
Nick Stuck and
Jeremiah Smith placed second in 3:39.30.
WOMEN
Weight Throw:
Alexa Poling took first overall with a throw of 13.86m - more than a tenth of a meter better than the second place finisher.
Lily Purdon was next for Cap in seventh place with a heave of 12.09m.
Grace Heckenlively (9.37m) and Deivon McCullough (9.09m) also competed for Cap.
200m Dash:
Larissa Agbor-Nkongho and
Cece Samuels went 1-2 in the 200m Dash as Larissa won with a time of 26.82 seconds, just .04 seconds off her previous best. Cece clocked in at 27.32 seconds which puts them in a tie for 10th best in Capital history. They sit level with Erica Basinger who hit the time in 2004.
Maria Da Cunha placed eighth with a time of 28.16 seconds.
Hanna Bauer (28.76),
Erniesha Guerrier (28.78) ,
Claire Larger (29.09) and
Olivia Humes (29.65) rounded out the Capital performances.
60m Dash: Both
Larissa Agbor-Nkongho and
Cece Samuels placed in the finals of the 60m dash. Larissa clocked a time of 8.122 seconds, which keeps her sixth overall on the top-10 list in Cap history, but improves upon her previous best of 8.16 seconds. Cece was just behind with a time of 8.129 seconds.
Pole Vault:
Bella McCarty placed second with a top vault of 2.85m.
400m Dash:
Erniesha Guerrier placed second overall with a 1:06.29.
Hanna Bauer was fifth best in a time of 1:06.74.
Shot Put:
Lily Purdon placed seventh with her best mark registering 10.63m. Deivon McCullough was just behind with a best throw of 10.56m.
Grace Heckenlively was next with her throw registering 10.18m.
Alexa Poling rounded it out with a throw of 9.97m.
Long Jump:
Claire Larger placed eighth with a jump of 4.83m and
Olivia Humes was 13th with a mark of 4.33m.
One Mile:
Alexa Daley placed sixth overall with a time of 5:54.52, while
Elizabeth Mak was ninth best in 5:58.49.
4x400m Relay: The quartet of
Olivia Humes,
Erniesha Guerrier,
Claire Larger and
Maria Da Cunha placed third in 4:33.13.

Capital will venture to the Greater Cleveland area for the Spire Midwest Open next Saturday, January 21st. The event will be held at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
