NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – On Wednesday afternoon, Capital University women's lacrosse was recognized by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) for their academic performance this past school year.
As a team, Capital was named as an Academic Honor Squad for the sixth time in program history. The Comets qualified for the recognition after posting a 3.6 team GPA for the past year. The team GPA surpassed the IWLCA's minimum of 3.2 for the award. Cap was just one of 326 institutions to receive this Honor Squad accolade across all three NCAA divisions as well as the NAIA.
Individually, five Comets received Honor Roll recognition as well. Those five include
Skyla Caito,
Brooke Delara,
Avery Hart,
Molly Searles, and
Dylan Smith. To be added to the Honor Roll student-athletes must be of junior, senior or graduate status and have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or greater during the previous school year. The five honorees this year mark the most in a single season for Capital, surpassing the previous most from 2017 when four ladies were recognized.
In addition to these IWLCA accolades, Capital was also recognized for their academics in the OAC, as Caito, Delara, Hart, Searles, and Smith were also named Academic All-Conference. In addition to these five, sophomores
Abigail Midnight and
Julia Foresi also received the conference honor.
