Women’s Soccer Earns At-Large Bid to NCAA Tournament

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Monday afternoon, the NCAA Selection Show revealed that Capital University women's soccer has earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The appearance will be the eighth NCAA bid in their program history.

Capital will play Ithaca College (12-3-4) on the campus of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday, November 12th at a time to be determined. The host school has yet to announce game times as they will have to shift a home football game in order to accommodate the two soccer matches. This meeting between Capital and Ithaca will be the first time the two schools compete in women's soccer.

On the other side of the first and second rounds in Cleveland will take place between the host Case Western Reserve and Pitt-Greensburg.

The winners of each first round game will meet in the second round at CWRU on Sunday, November 13th.

Capital finished the season with a 12-3-3 record overall and a share of the OAC Regular Season Championship. The team was the No. 1 seed through the OAC Tournament and lost a narrow 1-0 decision to Ohio Northern University in the tournament final this past Saturday.

The Comets have been led offensively by Avery Hart's 12 goals and six assists, while Sophia Leonetti has scored eight goals. Madeline Woodruff scored four goals and handed out eight assists this season.

Defensively, Capital has dealt with injuries all year long and has held firm keeping nine shutouts this year, thanks to the play of Haley Moore, Abby English, Taylor Marcum, Lexi Snider and others on the backline. Although she split time throughout the year, Lauren White has played 13 games in goal for Capital, making 45 saves, good for a .789 save percentage.

Capital's last trip to the NCAA Tournament took place in 2015 – a year in which the Comets traveled to Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. There, Capital defeated Hanover in the first round of the tournament and then fell to Centre in the second round. In NCAA Tournament history, Capital holds a 7-7 record.
