FINDLAY, Ohio – On Saturday afternoon, the Capital University track and field teams completed competition at the University of Findlay's Alumni Classic and Elite Throws event.
The team had a great showing as they set a school record, cracked several Capital Top-10 Times and scored points against a wealth of competition.
Highlighting the event were the school record effort of
Andy Fullmer in the heptathlon, the top-10 times in the one mile by
Donovan Slattery and
Anya Vanasdale, and the solid performances from several young faces.
The event was a difficult one for the Comets as it featured several nationally ranked Division II schools – Findlay, Tiffin, Ashland, Malone, and Walsh – and Division I schools Bowling Green and Dayton.
"It was great to see all the PRs set today at the midway point of our indoor season," said head coach
BT Pham. "I can't wait to get our team fully healthy through this bye week and finish out the rest of the season strong."
Below is a summary of the top performances from day two:
Men's Heptathlon:
Andy Fullmer completed action in the heptathlon, placing first in the event with 4,467 overall points. His efforts furthered his school record by 331 points and now sits him as the eighth best score in Division III across the country so far this season. On day two, Fullmer finished first in the 60 meter hurdles and the 1,000 meter run to help his efforts. He set a new personal bests in nearly every event of the multi, with a highlight coming in the long jump as he added nearly half a meter to his previous best effort. His new mark sits at 6.50 meters.
Men's Shot Put:
Jonathan Kirk tossed his way to fifth overall with a top throw registering 12.97 meters. His toss was just .03 meters off his season-best.
Hayden Shaffer also threw in the event, finishing 10th overall with his furthest throw marking 11.30 meters. The throw was his season-best by .15 meters.
Men's Triple Jump:
Daniel McCormack leaped his way to third place in the event, jumping a distance of 12.25 meters – a new personal best in an indoor setting.
Men's 60 Meter Hurdles:
Kelly Wilson II ran a first heat time of 8.72 seconds, just .12 seconds off his own school record in the event. His time was good enough to advance him to the finals in the event where he placed fifth with an even better time of 8.63 seconds, which was just .03 seconds off his school record time of 8.60 seconds.
Men's 60 Meter Dash:
Daniel Hiser and
Ishmael Young each competed in the first heat and placed 10th and 15th overall, respectively. Hiser clocked a time of 7.19 seconds – a new season best. Young marked a new personal best with his time of 7.28 seconds.
Women's One Mile:
Anya Vanasdale led a trio of Comets in the one mile with a fifth place finish and time of 5:29.30 – an improvement of her PR, and good enough to place her fourth overall on the Capital All-Time List.
Alexa Daley was next for Capital, marking a PR of her own with 5:44.93. Her time was good enough to claim 10th overall on the All-Time List.
Heather Fryman was the third Comet to run in the race, registering a time of 6:29.72.
Men's One Mile:
Donovan Slattery ran a huge PR in his race, finishing in a time of 4:37.68 – good enough to sixth on the All-Time List for Cap.
Aidan Cunningham also raced in the event and finished with another big improvement time of 4:55.81.
Women's 400 Meter Dash: Capital had five runners compete in the event.
Hanna Bauer finished eighth overall (1:08.15),
Larissa Agbor-Nkongho placed 10th (1:08.25),
Allison Costanzo finished 13th (1:09.01),
Olivia Humes crossed the line in 16th (1:12.43), and
Grace Lockard placed 18th (1:13.98).
Men's 400 Meter Dash:
Nick Stuck led three Comets in the men's 400, finishing with a new PR of 56.63 seconds.
Bobby Cole was just behind Stuck with a new personal best of his own (56.73 seconds).
Jason McColl also competed in the event, clocking a time of 58.57 for his first collegiate run.
Men's 800 Meter Run:
Sam Siedel placed ninth overall running a PR of 2:09.68. Zack Brown also competed for Cap, clocking a time of 2:17.39 – a 12 second PR.
Men's 200 Meter Dash:
Daniel Hiser placed 13th overall, running a new best in the 200 meter dash (23.45 seconds).
Ishmael Young was right on Hiser's heels with a time of 23.47 seconds – his PR as well.
Kelly Wilson II (24.81 seconds) and
Nick Stuck (25.50 seconds) also competed in the event. Stuck's time was a new PR for him.
Women's 4x400 Meter Relay: The quartet of
Hanna Bauer,
Alexa Daley,
Olivia Humes, and
Larissa Agbor-Nkongho teamed up to finish fifth overall with a time of 4:28.92.
Men's 4x400 Meter Relay:
Jason McColl,
Bobby Cole,
Aidan Cunningham, and
Donovan Slattery combined to finish sixth in a time of 3:52.76.
DAY ONE RECAP
Women's Weight Throw:
Alexa Poling tossed a respectable 13.13 meters in the weight throw. Albeit, not a personal best, she stacked up 14th overall in the competitive field.
Men's Heptathlon: After four events,
Andy Fullmer sits second overall in the heptathlon with 1,853 points. He finished second or third in the 60 meter dash, the high jump, and the long jump, while placing fifth in the shot put. He will continue action on Saturday morning to finish up his competition.
Women's Pole Vault:
Bella McCarty jumped a season-best 2.72 meters to finish 13th overall. The jump also matched her previous indoor best in the event.
Men's Pole Vault:
Zion Park cleared 4.03 meters in the event, placing him 11th overall. The mark served as Park's first clearance in the event this indoor season.
Men's Weight Throw:
Jonathan Kirk threw in the weight throw open event, marking the first time competing in the weight toss in his Capital tenure. Kirk registered a best throw of 10.05 meters.
