Danielle Szalay Named Senior Women’s Administrator

COLUMBUS, Ohio –  On Thursday afternoon, Interim Director of Athletics and Recreation Dixie Jeffers announced that Danielle Szalay MS, ATC will assume responsibilities as Capital University Athletics' next Senior Women's Administrator (SWA). Szalay currently serves as an Associate Athletic Trainer within the department and will inherit the role from Jeffers.

"I'm excited that Danielle will be joining the administrative team in athletics," said Jeffers. "Her work throughout the pandemic was above and beyond. She has a great grasp on what it means to be the SWA, and I look forward to working with her as we continue to develop our athletic department."

In addition to her athletic training roles, Szalay will now add the responsibility of the SWA to her position at Capital. The purpose of the role is to promote meaningful representation of women in the leadership and management of college sports. Szalay will work closely with Jeffers and assistant athletic director Dustin Rudegeair in ensuring the department has another diverse perspective when making administrative decisions. Szalay will help oversee athletics equity and Title IX compliance in this role as well.

Szalay has an extensive and rich background at both the professional and collegiate level in athletic training. She started at Capital in 2014 as an assistant athletic trainer and quickly elevated to associate athletic trainer. She has built strong and prominent relationships across campus as she has immersed herself in the CapFam since day one in the Purple and White.

Prior to moving to Columbus, Szalay spent eight years working at the United States Military Academy treating the volleyball, softball, women's basketball, women's soccer and rugby teams. Prior to West Point, Szalay was an assistant trainer at Kent State University, where she completed her graduate work.

While studying as an undergraduate at Bowling Green State University, Szalay interned with the Toledo Mudhens of Minor League Baseball.

Szalay's role as SWA has already begun.
