LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Capital University women's lacrosse team took its first loss of the season in a road defeat at the hands of Transylvania University (Ky.) on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers' first-half defensive effort helped in its 16-12 victory over the Crusaders at Pat Deacon Stadium

SLOW START
- Transylvania took an 8-4 lead into halftime marking the first time this season Cap has trailed heading into the break.
- The Pioneers scored five of the game's first six goals and all by a different player.
- Freshman Dylan Smith put Capital on the board to make it a 2-1 contest. Kathryn Walton earned the assist.
- Transylvania scored three more unanswered goals after Smith's tally. They scored another trio, all in succession, to bounce out to an 8-2 lead with 3:11 to go in the first.
- Capital took a little momentum into the locker room after Brooke Delara and Brianna Rampi scored back-to-back goals to cut the lead to four goals, 8-4.
- Transylvania held the advantage on first-half draw controls (7-5), shot attempts (14-10) and ground balls (12-9).
- Capital went just 5-for-11 on clear attempts and 0-for-3 on its free-position attempts.
BETTER, BUT NOT ENOUGH
- The Crusaders continued that momentum to score four out of the first five goals to begin the second half. Delara scored two of those goals, one while on the man-advantage stemming from the Pioneers' second yellow card in less than 10 minutes.
- Capital closed the gap to just one goal, 9-8, after the run which also included scored by Walton and Luci Kanowsky.
- However, the trio of Brianna McCulley, Courtney Pontious and Salem Carlow went on a run to regain a four-goal lead, 12-8, with 13:14 remaining.
- For a second time, Capital responded with three straight goals. This time it was Walton, Delara and Rampi, in that order, scoring all inside a two-minute span to bring the Crusaders back to within one goal.
- Transylvania led 13-12 with 6:16 to go when for one final time the Pioneers broke out for three straight tallies. The final two, both inside the last 2:00, were the final touches that sealed the win for the Pioneers.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Brooke Delara posted a six-point game behind four goals and two assists.
- Kathryn Walton also had six points but did so with two goals and four helpers. She also caused four turnovers and picked up eight ground balls.
- Four different Transylvania players had three goals at game's end including Salem Carlow, Brianna McCulley, Rachel Johnston, and Sophia Sparks.
- Senior goalie Katie Parks made eight saves in the loss, matching her counterpart across the field, Abi Waldron.

The Crusaders (2-1) have another tough task ahead of them in the University of Chicago. The Crusaders and the Maroon (0-0) will square off at Amos Alonzo Stagg Field on Wednesday, February 26 at 6 p.m. EST.
