COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team began the 2020 campaign with a demonstrative performance over regional foe Centre College, 16-8, at Bernlohr Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Junior Brooke Delara broke out with a top-notch performance, totaling nine points, in the Crusaders' win.

KEY ACTION
- Capital sophomore Luci Kanowsky scored the team's first goal of the season just 31 seconds into the game off of a feed from senior Kathryn Walton.
- Brooke Delara scored the first of her five goals on a free-position shot to put Cap up 2-0. Senior Brianna Rampi became the third Capital goal scorer and then followed with a second goal to keep Cap up two goals, 4-2.
- Capital's defense provided a serious challenge to the Centre offense. The Colonels successfully cleared the ball just 2-of-6 times in the first half. They also converted just 1-of-3 free-position shots, which helped Cap take a 7-4 lead into the locker room.
- To open the second half, Delara scored on a free-position shot once again, which set off a run of Capital goals. The Crusaders tallied four of the first five goals of the second half to take an 11-5 lead. Senior Kathryn Walton scored her first goal of the season amongst that run.
- Up six goals, the Crusaders began to play a possession-type game to wind the clock down, limiting Centre's chances at a comeback. After allowing 12 shots in the first, Cap limited the Colonels to nine in the second half.
NEWS AND NOTES FROM THE DAY
- Brooke Delara (Lewis Center, Ohio / Olentangy Orange) scored the 100th point of her career on the first goal of the second half. She tallied a total of nine points behind five goals and four assists while adding four ground balls, five draw controls and two caused turnovers.
- Kathryn Walton (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington Central) scored four goals and two assists to aid the offensive effort. She corralled a team-high seven ground balls and four caused turnovers.
- Sophomore Luci Kanowsky (Bexley, Ohio / Bexley) matched Walton in each scoring category with four goals and two helpers.
- Senior Brianna Rampi (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) finished the day with three goals and one assist while tallying five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
- Freshman Skyla Caito notched her first career point with an assist late in the first half.
- Senior goalie Katie Parks (Loveland, Ohio / Loveland) made seven stops and allowed just eight goals on 15 shots faced.
- The Crusaders' defense limited Centre's top scorer, Mary Katherine Hardy to four goals, while Sloan Reding tied her for the team lead in that category. No other Colonel scored a goal and only one other found the scoresheet.
NEXT UP
Capital (1-0) will hit the road for a Wednesday night affair with Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. The Crusaders and Tigers will take the first draw at 7 p.m. from Edwards-Maurer Field.
