Box Score

By: Sean Neidig, sports information graduate assistant

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In their final regular season game at Purmort Field at Bernlohr Stadium, Capital University Women's Lacrosse's four seniors, who have already left an undeniable mark on the program, made sure to leave their marks in the game against Heidelberg University with a 20-2 win.

Seniors Regan Hanood (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North), Mary Manos (Canton, Ohio/Jackson), Kara Hines (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) and Taylor Thomas (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) combined for 21 points in the win with nine goals and 12 assists. Thomas was the team's leading scorer on the day with five goals and four assists. Hines added three goals and three assists and Hanood scored once while dishing out five assists.

The Crusaders started the game with six unanswered goals including four in the first three minutes of play. Junior Makenna Ozenghar (Youngstown, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) opened the scoring 16 seconds into the game, Thomas scored twice during the 6-0 run and Kathryn Walton scored a hat trick in eight minutes.

After Dana Dudley got Heidelberg on the board, Capital went on another six-goal run. Thomas scored two more and Walton added another while Brooke Delara (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange), Brianna Rampi (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) and Hanood found the back of the net for their first goals of the day. Dudley scored her second goal of the day with two and a half minutes until halftime to make the score 12-2 in Capital's favor.

In the second half, Hines finally got her name on the scoresheet after being shut out in the first half and she did so in a big way with six points. Walton scored two more times to bring her game total to six and her season total to 51. Fittingly, Hanood, Capital's all-time assists leader, fed Hines, Capital's all-time leading scorer, for the final goal of the game.

Capital's 39 points are the second-most this season to the team's 41 against Muskingum University earlier in the year. The Crusaders had a 38-5 advantage in shots, an 18-6 lead in draw controls and a 28-17 win in ground balls. Capital was also a perfect 15-for-15 on clear attempts.

Starting goaltender Lisa Lotz (Lynchburg, Va./Jefferson Forest) played the first half and allowed both goals and Katie Parks (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) had a clean second half between the pipes.

Capital will be on the road for its final two games of the regular season and will play at Wilmington College at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25 before finishing the regular season at Ohio Northern on April 28.
