CHICAGO – As it has all season long, Capital University Men's Soccer stepped up in the most crucial moments to accomplish something that had not been done before in program history. With less than a minute remaining in double overtime, Daniel Bundschuh (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) scored a goal in the 110th minute to give Capital the first NCAA Tournament win in program history, a 2-1 triumph over the Dominican University (Ill.) Stars.

With the Crusaders and Stars tied at one and time ticking towards a penalty shootout, the Crusaders had a chance to mount one more attack. Sophomore midfielder Tristan Bentley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Archbishop McNicholas) picked up the ball near midfield and dribbled down the right sideline. As he approached Dominican's goal, Bentley evaded one defender before being leveled by a second. Luckily for Capital, Bundschuh was right there to gather the loose ball in stride and then cut inside and took a shot that hit off the post and in for the game-winner. The goal was Bundschuh's sixth of the year.

Capital started the game with a few key defensive stands but didn't generate many opportunities until junior forward Chewy Gordon (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with a header off a corner kick from Greg Knox (Oxford, Mich./Oxford). Capital took six first-half shots to Dominican's nine.

The Stars equalized in the 60th minute thanks to Adam Yaghmour, a score off of his own rebound. For the next 50 minutes of play, neither team could gain an edge until Bundschuh's game-winner.

Senior goalkeeper Justin Niswonger (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) allowed the one goal but was perfect otherwise with five saves.

The Crusaders were outshot 22-16 in the match but each team had three shots in the overtime periods in what was a physical game. There were 45 fouls called in the match and 10 cards were handed out, including a red on Dominican's bench.

The Crusaders improve to 13-7-2 on the year but will have less than a day to prepare before taking on the University of Chicago at 8 p.m. EST. The Maroons beat Lake Forest College 6-2 on Saturday night.
