Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University Women's Lacrosse dropped its third match in a row in an 8-3 defensive struggle with Augustana College (Ill.) on Saturday afternoon. Capital is now 5-3 on the season heading into conference play, next week.
The Vikings (9-1) took control of the match from the start, scoring each of the game's first three goals within the first six minutes of the contest. Capital senior Kim Hoerauf (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) responded by connecting with sophomore Victoria Husain to get Capital on the board at 22:03. Sophomore Kara Hines (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) added to that total by splitting the defense and making it a one-goal affair.
Both teams traded goals before hitting the 10-minute mark, lending to a 4-3 match. Augustana's Olivia Mayer continued to have a standout game by scoring the final two goals of the half, increasing the Vikings' lead to 6-3 before halftime. All of her game-high four goals were scored in the first half.
Only two goals were scored in the entire second half, both by Augustana. Both teams were scoreless over the first 21:50 minutes of the second half. Quinn Foley and Anne Hopkins posted goals in the 12th and 27th minutes, respectively, while keeping Capital off of the board through the final horn.
Freshman Makenna Ozenghar (Youngstown, Ohio) scored her first career goal in the loss, coming off of a free position shot. She also collected a pair of ground balls.
Capital will look to end its current slide next Saturday, April 9, when they open Ohio Athletic Conference play against Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
