Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Capital University Softball continued its struggles in Saturday afternoon's doubleheader against The University of Mount Union. In game one, Mount Union took control, scoring nine runs in two innings shortly after the Crusaders captured the lead. Errors plagued Capital in game two, as Mount Union grabbed an early lead.

Game 1 – Capital 7, Mount Union 12

Facing a 3-0 deficit at the start of the second inning, Capital's (13-14, 4-6 OAC) offense received a spark as back-to-back batters, Marisa Koss (Ostrander, Ohio) and Ashley Knowles (Canton, Ohio), hit doubles. The double hit by Knowles sent Koss in for Capital's first run. Knowles was scored on the next at-bat as Kristen Mellott (Clear Spring, Md.) hit a sacrifice fly out to center field.

In the third stanza, Katie Hurst (Macedonia, Ohio) was responsible for three Crusader runs. The senior outfielder registered a two-RBI hit past first base, scoring Bailey Walter (Ashland, Ohio) and Brooklyn Staten (Grove City, Ohio). Hurst eventually reached home on a wild pitch, giving the Crusaders a 5-3 lead.

Mount Union (21-13, 7-5) took control of the contest in the fourth inning, exploding for six runs. The Purple Raiders were aided by a pair of homers by Andi Vansickle and Brooke Cox.

One inning later, Mount Union added three runs, highlighted by two doubles from Logan Lehman and Vansickle.

Mount Union finished with 16 hits compared to Capital's nine.

Knowles and Koss led the Crusaders with two hits apiece as Hurst registered a team-high two RBIs.

Game 2 – Capital 2, Mount Union 8

Mount Union jumped out to a 4-0 lead with four runs in the third inning, aided by a pair of Crusader errors.
