Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team was in action Saturday morning as they hosted Calvin College. The Crusaders won, 18-11, led by Kara Hines' eight goals.
After the Knights scored the game's first goal, sophomore Kara Hines (Columbus, Ohio/ Worthington Kilbourne), scored the equalizer at the 26-minute mark in the first half. Hines scored another goal two minutes later giving the Crusaders a 2-1 lead.
After Calvin tied the game, senior Kim Hoerauf (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), scored off of a pass from sophomore Victoria Husain (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South). Just 30 seconds later, the duo connected again as Hoerauf scored from a pass from Husain.
After a Knights goal, Hines scored an unassisted goal at the six minute mark. After a scored goal by Calvin, Hines scored on a free position shot at the four-minute mark. Less than a minute later, Hines scored against this time off of a pass from Husain.
The Crusaders took an 8-6 lead into the half.
After Calvin got the second half scoring started, the Crusaders answered with a goal from Hines assisted by sophomore Regan Hanood (Pickerington, Ohio/ Pickerington North). Sophomore Taylor Thomas (Massillon, Ohio) scored just 32 seconds later off a pass from Hoerauf.
The Knights cut the Crusader lead to 10-8 with 21 minutes left to play. The Crusaders answered with two more goals in less than a minute. The first goal was scored by Husain, assisted by Hanood. The second was scored by junior Korri Titus (Pickerington, Ohio/ Pickerington North) from a free position shot.
Calvin scored the next two goals before Capital went on a 6-0 run. Thomas recorded the first goal on a pass from Husain at the 14-minute mark. After a six minute scoreless streak, Titus scored an unassisted goal just under eight minutes. After a Calvin received a yellow card, Thomas scored while a man-up on a pass from Hanood. Hines scored the next two goals for Capital. The first came on a pass from Titus and the second came on a free position shot. Hoerauf scored the Crusaders' final goal of the game on a pass from Titus with just over two minutes left in the game.
Hines finished the game tying two career-highs with eight goals and 10 draw controls. Hoerauf finished with four goals, six draw controls and one ground ball. Husain finished the game with a team-high five assists, and added four ground balls and one goal.
As a team, the Crusaders forced 17 turnovers. Capital converted 10-of-11 clear chances, and outshot Calvin 35-22.
Capital improves to 4-0 on the season. The Crusaders return to action on Saturday March 19, as they travel to Ohio Wesleyan University at 1 p.m.
