Thomas has Career Day as Women's Lacrosse Breezes by Barons, 20-2

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Wednesday afternoon's women's lacrosse match at Bernlohr Stadium featured a career day for Taylor Thomas and four different players to record five or more points. Capital University defeated Franciscan University by a score of 20-2 in their last nonconference game of the season.

Thomas, a freshman from Canton, Ohio, tied her career high with five goals against the Barons, but set a new personal best with eight points after tallying three assists over the course of the game. Her previous career highs in both categories were two helpers and seven points. She previously scored five goals in Capital's 22-3 win over Wilmington earlier in the month.

Freshman Regan Hanood (Pickerington, Ohio/North) nearly matched her previous career best of nine points, but did tie her own school record for assists in a match with seven. She added one goal in Wednesday's win, that on a free-position shot. Hanood is now ranked third in the Ohio Athletic Conference for assists, totaling 21 after today's match.

Freshmen Kara Hines (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) and Victoria Husain (Westerville, Ohio/South) also tallied more than five points in the win. Hines scored five times to add to her league-leading goal total (62) while Husain posted three goals and three assists.

Capital (10-3, 3-2 OAC) controlled the game from the get-go, scoring seven times before Franciscan posted its first goal. Of those seven goals, Thomas scored three times, while Hines scored twice.

After taking an 11-1 advantage into halftime, Capital went on to score nine goals in succession before the Barons scored one last time with less than 30 seconds remaining. At one point, Capital scored a total of 13 unanswered goals.

Capital is now 6-0 at home and has outscored its opposition 133-21 in those games. They look to finish the season unblemished at home, but face a win-to-get-in scenario against Baldwin Wallace University (5-5, 2-2 OAC). While the Yellow Jackets are on pace to defeat Muskingum University in their Wednesday night game, the two teams will vie for a spot in the upcoming OAC Tournament.

Both teams will enter the regular season finale on Saturday with 3-2 conference marks. Should Capital defeat Baldwin Wallace, they would qualify for the conference tournament and knock out Otterbein University. In that scenario, Capital would hold the second seed, based on a tiebreaker held over John Carroll, and Baldwin Wallace the fourth. Should Capital lose to Baldwin Wallace, they would then be eliminated from the postseason by virtue of a head-to-head tiebreaker held by Otterbein. The Yellow Jackets would be the three seed and the Cardinals the four.

Faceoff between the Crusaders and Yellow Jackets on Saturday, April 25, is set for 1 p.m. at Bernlohr Stadium.
