Hines' Last-Minute Goal Jets Crusaders Past Blue Streaks

Box Score

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – Down by two goals in the final three minutes, the tandem of Korri Titus and Kara Hines drew up a comeback that helped Capital University Women's Lacrosse overcome John Carroll University, 11-10.

The second half provided a set of thrills for both teams. Capital's late surge provided the final set, one that determined the outcome of the match. With the Crusaders up 8-6, John Carroll rattled off four consecutive goals to retake the lead with just over three minutes to go.

Down 10-8, Capital kicked it into gear with the combination of sophomore Korri Titus (Pickerington, Ohio/North) and freshman Kara Hines (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) scoring the game's final three goals. Titus scored her first goal on a free-position attempt stemming from a foul on Grave Curatolo. Titus then tied the game with a man-up goal that resulted after Roserita DiMillo was handed a yellow card.

The pressure continued to pile when Titus missed on her next free-position attempt but nearly 30 seconds later, Hines came to the rescue and scored her conference-leading 57th goal of the season to put Capital ahead, 11-10.

Freshman Victoria Husain (Westerville, Ohio/South) won a key draw control following the goal, initiating some aggressive play by John Carroll. The Blue Streaks attempted to regain control, but instead committed five fouls inside the final 30 seconds and was unable to generate a scoring opportunity.

Both teams made it commonplace to score in bunches. Capital scored the first three goals of the game, two of which by Hines. John Carroll then responded with three goals in a span of 2:35. The Crusaders then scored three of the next four goals to take a 6-5 lead into the locker room.

Titus and Hines accounted for 10 of Capital's 11 goals, the other being scored by freshman Regan Hanood (Pickerington, Ohio/North). Hanood also had the Crusaders' lone assist.

Four different Blue Streak players hit for two goals. Gina Vilsack was one of those players and added two assists to lead JCU.

Sophomore Maddie Wilson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) made five saves of 15 shots faced and picked up four ground balls in the win.

Capital (9-3, 3-2 OAC) current stands in third place in the most updated OAC standings. Otterbein (7-5, 2-2) and Baldwin Wallace (4-5, 1-2) will play Sunday.

The Crusaders will play one final nonconference game against Franciscan University on Wednesday, April 22 at 4 p.m. They will wrap up the regular season with a decisive matchup with Baldwin Wallace, which could determine the Crusaders' fate in the upcoming OAC Tournament.
