GAMBIER, Ohio – In Tuesday afternoon's battle of unbeatens, the Capital University women's lacrosse team suffered its first defeat of the season at the hands of Kenyon College. The Ladies turned down the Crusaders' comeback bid, 10-9, at Mavec Field.

Down 10-8 with three minutes to go, freshman Kara Hines (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) scored the final of her three goals on a free position shot with 54 seconds remaining to give the Crusaders a fighting chance at tying the game before the end of regulation. Following a turnover by Kenyon, the Crusaders advanced one last time but Kenyon's Katherine Englert caused a turnover and picked up the ground ball to quell the Capital scoring threat.

Capital (3-1) came back from two goals down to create a tight match for the entire second half. Freshman Taylor Thomas (Canton, Ohio) scored a little more than one minute into the second half to make for a one-goal game, 6-5. Hines than tied it up less than one minute later, signaling the beginning of a back-and-forth type ending.

Victoria Husain (Westerville, Ohio/South) tallied her only goal of the game to tie it up at seven goals each, and then Thomas struck again. Thomas converted a free-position shot to give Capital its first lead, 8-7, with 17:13 to go.

Kenyon (5-0) then went on to score three straight goals to gain enough of an advantage that was not to be overcome.

The Ladies' Allie McLane led her team with four goals while Hines and Thomas led the Crusaders with three, each.

Sophomore keeper Maddie Wilson faced her biggest test of the season and stopped eight of the 18 shots on goal she faced. Her counterpart, Meredith Bentsen, stopped 6-of-15 shots.

The Crusaders will play another road match at Mount St. Joseph's on Saturday, March 21. The match is set to begin at 12 p.m.
