DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team tallied its fourth straight victory on Wednesday evening, defeating Defiance 14-1 in a non-conference road contest at Coressel Stadium.
Capital jumped out to a 6-0 lead through the first 17:38 of play, as the Yellow Jackets failed to score their initial goal of the game until the 12:22 mark of the opening half.
The Crusaders then tacked on a trio of unanswered goals over the final 10:51 of the first half; as they took a commanding 9-1 lead into halftime.
At the half, the Crusaders were outshooting the Yellow Jackets 19-4, while forcing Defiance into 17 first half turnovers.
As the second half of action unfolded, Capital carried its end of the first half momentum over to the final frame, continuing its scoring streak throughout the entire half.
The Crusaders recorded the only goals of the second half, posting five unanswered scores over a span of just over 16 minutes of play, leading to a 13 goal win.
In total, the Capital outshot Defiance 33-6, 30 of them coming on goal, while forcing the Yellow Jackets into 32 turnovers for the game.
Leading the way for the Crusaders was freshman midfielder Shannon Walton (Fairview Park, Ohio), who scored a game-high four goals on nine shots, while corralling three ground balls and winning two draw controls.
Freshman midfielder Korri Titus (Pickerington, Ohio) followed with three goals on five shots, all of them coming on goal, while fellow midfielder in sophomore Kim Hoerauf (Worthington, Ohio) also scored a trio of goals in the contest.
Junior attack Carly Pries (Hilliard, Ohio), sophomore attack Conner Quick (Grove City, Ohio), as well freshman defender Alexis Jurgensen (Canton, Ohio) and classmate in attack Miranda Stellini (Dublin, Ohio), each recorded one goal apiece in the victory.
Freshman goalie Maddie Wilson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) recorded her eighth win in goal, tallying five saves on six shots faced.
With the win, Capital (8-1 overall) is now set to travel to Mount Union for the varsity program's first-ever Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Alliance, Ohio.
