Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLUMBUS – The Capital University softball team split a double header against Baldwin Wallace on Saturday afternoon, winning 6-5 in game one before falling 8-6 in game two in the Crusaders first Ohio Athletic Conference matchup of the season.

Game One

The first game was won by the Crusaders in comeback fashion, as they came back from a 4-0 deficit, plating four runs in the fifth inning and two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 6-5 victory.

Baldwin Wallace jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning following a five-hit inning, all of which served as singles and drove runs in through the process.

Junior pitcher Alyssa Patznick (Newark, Ohio) then threw back-to-back scoreless innings through the third and the fourth frames, until the Yellow Jackets added a run in the top of the fifth inning.

The Crusaders then scored four runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning, pulling to within one run of the Yellow Jackets heading into the final two innings.

Neither team managed to plate a run in the sixth inning, as the Crusaders again shutdown the Yellow Jackets in the top half of the seventh inning, before scoring two runs on three hits with the game-winning hit by freshman Kat Boyer (Huber Heights, Ohio), scoring sophomore Katlyn Simpson (Loudonville, Ohio) and junior Kelsie Swain (Pickerington, Ohio).

Patznick earned her fifth victory of the season in the game one victory.

Game Two

In the second game of the double header, the Crusaders fell behind 5-0 through the first four innings, before freshman Marissa Koss (Ostrander, Ohio) connected on a home run, scoring junior LeAnna Cotton (Okeechobee, Fla.).

Baldwin Wallace then added two more runs in the top half of the fifth inning, before the Crusaders shutout the Yellow Jackets in the sixth inning.

Capital followed up in the sixth inning with a pair of runs on another two-run home run, cutting the Crusaders deficit to 8-4 heading into the final inning.

The Yellow Jackets struck out twice swinging and grounded out in the infield in the top half of the seventh inning, before the Crusaders connected on a pair of solo home runs in their half of the inning, but to no avail, as they came up just short, falling 8-6 in game two.
