Box Score
DELAWARE, Ohio - Day two of the Fred Myers Invitational at Ohio Wesleyan saw the Capital University men's soccer team record their first result other than a win on the young season.
Coming into the match, the Crusaders stood at 2-0-0 following back-to-back 2-1 victories over Wittenberg and Colorado College.
So with yet another 2012 NCAA Tournament qualifier in their path in Christopher Newport (Va.), the Crusaders were up to the challenge.
The Crusaders inked the scoreboard first after junior R.G. Florey tapped the ball in after a loose ball on the botched save by the Captains' goalkeeper.
Florey's goal would see to be the lone score of the first half, despite a 10-7 shot advantage for their opposition.
However, the score would quickly be evened at 1-1 just minutes into the second half of play as the Captains netted a goal of their own following a volley from the top of the box.
For the next thirty-eight minutes of regulation, neither team could break the tie as the game was forced into overtime.
In the first overtime, the Crusaders tallied five shots while holding the Captains to just two, but neither squad could capitalize on goal.
Much of the same in the second overtime, as the final ten minutes of the match would prove to be the end of the game resulting in a 1-1 draw.
Tallying the lone goal of the game for the Crusaders was Florey, who netted his first of the season, while also recording four of his six shots on goal to pressure the defense.
Senior Bob Weisgarber also played a key role for the Crusaders, saving seven of the eight shots on goal that he faced.
In total, the Captains held a slim advantage in total shots (23-22), while both teams finished even at nine shots on goal.
Next up for Capital (2-0-1) is a home match against Hiram on Sept. 11 at 5 p.m.
