COLUMBUS, Ohio -Â The Capital University men's soccer team opened its home schedule Saturday afternoon at Bernlohr Stadium, welcoming the Transylvania Pioneers to Columbus.
The Comets came away with a 2-1 victory, scoring both of their goals in the second half. Capital improved to 1-1-0 on the season, while Transylvania also fell to 1-1-0.
Despite Transylvania outshooting Capital 20-9 and putting 11 shots on goal compared with three for the Comets, Capital's offense delivered when it mattered most.
Christian Monzalvo scored his first goal of the season to give Capital the lead. After his initial shot was saved, Monzalvo collected the rebound and fired a right-footed shot into the net for the game's opening goal at the 53
rd minute.
Just six minutes later, Transylvania's Cole Varela evened the score with a penalty kick, recording the Pioneers' lone goal of the afternoon.
With the game tied late,
Wassim Metatla put Capital back in front in the 83rd minute. Metatla beat a defender and scored on his own to record his first goal of the season and give the Comets a 2-1 lead.

Noah Thomas played the full 90 minutes for Capital and made 10 saves, recording five in each half.
UP NEXT
The Comets will look to build on the victory Sunday when they return to Bernlohr Stadium to face the Bluffton Beavers. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. Bluffton enters the matchup with a 0-1 record.
