Capital tallied three runs in the first and added three more in the second to take a 6-0 advantage. Senior first baseman Lexi Majoy (Huron, Ohio), freshman second baseman Brooklyn Staten (Grove City, Ohio) and Becker all singled in runs in the first. Boggs and Cotton plated runs with singles in the second.
After the Bison (17-17) cut the deficit to five runs in the bottom of the third, the Crusaders responded with four in the top of the fourth on Cotton's two-run homer, an RBI double by Becker and a single through the right side by senior right fielder Katie Neely (Sugar Grove, Ohio).
In the opener, Majoy and sophomore catcher Maura Rose (Williamsport, Pa.) each knocked a home run to pace Capital, which doubled up Bethany in hits, 16-8, in the contest. Majoy knocked her sixth of the year in the first, sending a solo shot over the left field fence. Rose hit a grand slam to right center in the sixth to help the Crusaders put a tight game out of reach.
Staten and sophomore centerfielder Kelsey Swain (Pickerington, Ohio) each finished 3-for-4 in the affair. Neely added two hits and two RBIs, while Majoy, Rose and freshman third baseman Katlyn Simpson (Loudonville, Ohio) also contributed with a pair of hits apiece.
