The Capital University volleyball team finished off an undefeated weekend at the Manchester Tournament with wins over Calumet St. Joseph and Purdue North Central on Saturday in Manchester, Ind.
The Crusaders (6-8 overall) knocked off Calumet St. Joseph 25-19, 25-12, 25-12 before sweeping Purdue North Central 25-15, 25-17, 25-19 to conclude the tournament.
Against Calumet St. Joseph (6-11), freshman Katie Weilbacher (Grove City, Ohio) filled the box score with six kills, 12 assists and nine digs. Fellow freshman setter Angie Fisher (Celina, Ohio) added 14 assists, eight digs and three service aces.
Sophomores Marissa Price (Tiffin, Ohio) and Melissa Verhoff (Ottawa, Ohio; at right) led the offense with nine kills apiece. Price and senior Shannon Quinn (Miamisburg, Ohio) combined for 32 digs to pace the defense.
Capital continued its strong play against Purdue North Central (4-11), hitting .214 while holding the Panthers to a negative hitting percentage. Price (10 kills, 10 digs) and Weilbacher (19 assists, 12 digs) recorded double-doubles, while Verhoff totaled 10 kills, seven digs and five blocks.
Senior Leanne Schaefer (Verona, Wis.) registered six digs and a team-high eight blocks.
The Crusaders open Ohio Athletic Conference play Tuesday at Ohio Northern. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Ada, Ohio.
