The Capital University volleyball team posted a convincing win away from home Tuesday, knocking off Muskingum 25-23, 25-21, 25-16 in an Ohio Athletic Conference match-up at New Concord, Ohio.
With the victory, the Crusaders (11-19 overall, 3-5 OAC) moved into a tie for seventh place with the Muskies (15-15, 3-5) and hold the tiebreaker for the No. 7 seed in the OAC Tournament, which begins next week.
Senior Leanne Schaefer (Verona, Wis.; at right) led the offense with nine kills and three blocks, while sophomore Melissa Verhoff (Ottawa, Ohio) totaled eight kills, six digs and two blocks. Senior Shannon Quinn (Miamisburg, Ohio) led the defense with a match high 22 digs. Quinn entered the week as the nation's leader in digs per set.
Freshman Katie Weilbacher (Grove City, Ohio) added six kills, 18 assists and eight digs, while classmate Angie Fisher (Celina, Ohio) recorded 16 assists and six digs. Sophomore Kelly Leonard (Cincinnati, Ohio) and freshman Natalie Briggs (Pataskala, Ohio) combined for 16 digs and four service aces.
Capital concludes the regular season this Saturday against 13th-ranked Otterbein at 11 a.m. at the Capital Center. Prior to the start of the match, Quinn and Schaefer will be recognized in their last home match as Crusaders.
