COLUMBUS, Ohio -Â Before hosting the Pam Briggs Classic this weekend in Columbus, Capital volleyball geared up for another non-conference matchup Wednesday night, welcoming the Wooster Fighting Scots to the Capital Performance Arena.
The Comets came away victorious in a thrilling five-set match against the Fighting Scots, earning their first team win of the season and giving head coach
Maddie Wentz her first victory as a Comet.
Abby Reed led the Comets offensively with 13 kills and 14 points.
Chloe Preocanin followed with 11 kills and four aces. Setter
Carlee Thompson dished out 21 assists to her hitters while adding nine digs, while
Stefanee Stacey contributed 20 assists and 11 digs.
The teams traded points throughout the opening set before Wooster pulled away to take a 25-20 victory.
Capital responded strongly in the second set, battling the Fighting Scots into extra points before securing a 27-25 win to even the match.
The third set belonged to Wooster, as the Fighting Scots generated enough offensive momentum to take the set 25-16.
Capital refused to give in, however. The Comets maintained their energy and battled through the fourth set, earning a 25-22 victory and forcing a decisive fifth set.
In their first five-set match of the season, the Comets looked comfortable in the pressure-filled situation. Capital jumped out to a 10-4 lead and finished strong, taking the fifth set 15-12 to secure the victory.

Following the win, the Comets turn their attention to the annual Pam Briggs Classic in Columbus, Ohio. Capital will play three matches over the weekend, facing Trine and Washington & Jefferson on Friday before closing out the tournament against Hanover on Saturday morning.
