COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Capital University volleyball team opened up the 2026 season on Tuesday evening at home with a host of new and young additions along with a new coaching staff. Unfortunately for Capital, the Comets took a while to find their rhythm as they were upended in straight sets by Anderson, 3-0 (10-25, 14-25, 22-25).
With the result, Capital starts the year 0-1, while Anderson opens their campaign 1-0.
In the game, Capital collected 25 kills, led by 10 from transfer
Ava Knight.
Abby Reed landed four kills, while newcomer
Jasmine Easterday landed three kills. Both
Shy Black and freshman
Cici Harris landed two kills, while
Chloe Preocanin,
Emily Waites,
Carlee Thompson and
Sidney Hains each had one kill.
Thompson guided the offense with 15 assists, followed closely by
Stefanee Stacey with seven helpers in her debut.
Defensively, Knight was also the team leader in digs, finishing with 10.
Shy Black followed with seven digs, while
Afaf Smidi and Easterday had five digs each. Stacey, Preocanin, and Thompson all had four digs each.
At the net,
Cici Harris was busy, finishing with four blocks in her first college match. She was joined in the blocking department by Preocanin (2) and Reed (1).
Capital had four aces -- two from Reed and one each from Black and Thompson.
UP NEXT
Capital will begin a three-game weekend as they travel to Ohio Wesleyan on Friday, September 4th for a 7 p.m. match. Then, the Comets will take on both Wittenberg and Illinois Tech on Saturday with both of those matches taking place at Wittenberg.
