Track and Field In Action at Ashland

ASHLAND, Ohio – The Capital University track and field team got their final tune-up for the upcoming Ohio Athletic Conference Championships as they competed at the Ashland Alumni Invitational on Friday and Saturday of this weekend. 

There, the Comets competed well as they primarily set their sights toward next week's OAC Championships. 

Below is a summary of the weekend's performances. 

MEN
100-meter dash: Leighton Kordack placed 20th in 11.42 seconds, followed by Demetre Wheeler with a time of 11.55 seconds. 

400-meter dash: Wheeler led the way in the 400 with a time of 50.95 seconds, followed by Kordack in 54.90 seconds and Trevor Estep in 57.20 seconds. 

800-meter run: Ridwan Aliawl clocked in at 2:01.42 and Braydon Nix was just behind with a time of 2:01.50. 

1,500-meter run: Justin Rona placed ninth in a time of 4:04.92. Reef Murray clocked in at 4:28.20. 

5,000-meter run: Dimetrius Floyd placed 15th in a time of 16:11.71, followed by Jordan Hull in a time of 17:04.30 to place 18th overall. 

Hammer Throw: Nolan Piper marked 52.19 meters in his best effort to place ninth overall. 

Shot Put: Piper placed 16th with a distance of 13.19 meters. 

Discus: Piper marked 42.56 meters in his best effort to settle 15th overall. 

WOMEN
200-meter dash: Juli Sprague ran a time of 28.43 seconds. 

400-meter dash: Juli Sprague placed 11th in 1:02.72 and Isabella Johnson was in 12th with a time of 1:02.84. 

800-meter run: Shelby Janes placed 7th in a time of 2:25.13 – a time good enough to move her into eighth all-time at Capital. Chloe Zarlino was 24th in a time of 2:55.16. 

4x100-meter relay: The quartet of Jaleea Harvey, Isabella Johnson, Jersie Papacostas and Juli Sprague placed fourth in 50.70 seconds. 

High Jump: Brooklyn Herbert cleared the bar at 1.53 meters. 

Long Jump: Larae Portis jumped 4.20 meters while Jersie Papacostas marked 3.73 meters on her best jump. 

Triple Jump: Papacostas placed 11th with a distance of 10.01 meters. 

Pole Vault: Claire Robinson cleared the bar at 3.52 meters to place 10th. Alex Wilkinson was 11th with a height of 3.37 meters. 

Hammer Throw: Mia Sanchez placed 28th with a distance of 37.62 meters and Lillian Baker was 33rd with a mark of 29.66 meters. 

Discus: Baker threw a distance of 33.26 meters while Sanchez marked 27.54 meters on her best mark. 

UP NEXT
Capital will now turn their attention to the OAC Championships set to take place on Thursday and Friday of next week, April 30th and May 1st at Muskingum University.
