COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University softball team hosted Ohio Northern on Friday afternoon at Clowson Field and it proved to be a prosperous day at the ball field as the Comets took both games, punctuating the evening on a walk-off winner in game two. The Purple and White won game one 5-2 before completing a four-run comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning of game two to win 6-5.
With the results, Capital improves to 16-12 overall and 5-5 in the OAC. Ohio Northern is now 8-20 overall and 2-8 in the conference.
GAME ONE: Capital def. ONU, 5-2
The Comets got up in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back in an eventual 5-2 win.
In the bottom of the second, Capital got their first run on an errant throw by the ONU catcher as
Shelby Allen came home on a stolen base by
Megan Parry. Then, Cap added another as Parry herself scored on an RBI single by
Morgan Priest.
Just an inning later, Capital doubled their lead at 4-0 thanks to a two-run home run by Allen. The round tripper was the second of her career and second of the season.
In the bottom of the fifth, Capital scored their final insurance run as Parry tacked on an RBI single that scored
Autumn Bridges.
ONU would hit a two-run home run of their own in the sixth, but that would prove only consolation.
Shelby Allen and
Morgan Priest each had two hits to lead the way, while
Kyleigh Kirby,
Autumn Bridges and
Megan Parry each had one hit.
Alyssa Miller (8-4) pitched a complete game and allowed just two runs on eight hits and a walk. She struck out seven Polar Bears.

In the second inning, the Comets took a 2-1 lead thanks to a sacrifice squeeze bunt by

Ohio Northern would go on to tie the game in the fourth at 2-2. Later in the sixth, an unfortunate double play ended a promising threat for the Comets, sending the tied game into the seventh.
In that final inning, Northern posted three runs to go up 5-2. However, the Comets rallied for four runs in the bottom half to secure the comeback 6-5 victory. In the bottom half, Capital scored runs thanks to an RBI by Allen,
