Baseball Battles at Ohio Northern | Comets Drop Doubleheader

ADA, Ohio - Capital University baseball hit the road for an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon, falling in both contests to Ohio Northern at Wander Field. The Comets dropped game one by a score of 3-1 before falling 13-2 in the nightcap. With the pair of losses, Capital moves to 15-15 overall and 4-6 in OAC play.

GAME ONE (3-1 L)
Capital was limited offensively in the opener, managing just five hits in a tightly contested match-up. Ohio Northern struck early with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, capitalizing on a defensive miscue and a pair of sacrifice flies to take a 2-0 lead.

The Comets responded in the fourth inning when Ty Clifton launched a solo home run to right field, cutting the deficit to 2-1. However, that would be the lone run of the game for Capital.

Ohio Northern added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth, and Capital was unable to generate further offense down the stretch despite putting runners on base in multiple innings.

Clifton led the way offensively, going 2-for-4 with the home run and the team's only RBI. Kielan LaMarr, Bryce Kyees, and Trent Clark each contributed a hit as well.

On the mound, Nash Andrix delivered a solid outing, tossing six innings while allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits with six strikeouts. Casey Wilkins provided two scoreless innings of relief.

GAME TWO (13-2 L)
In game two, Capital jumped out early but could not keep pace with a high-powered Ohio Northern offense.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Comets answered in the second as Ty Clifton delivered again with a two-run home run to even the score at 2-2.

The momentum quickly shifted, however, as Ohio Northern regained the lead in the bottom of the second and then broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning followed by a three-run fifth. The Polar Bears continued to add on late, finishing with 13 runs on 14 hits.

Clifton drove in both Capital runs, finishing 1-for-4 with two RBI. Gio Mastrorosa and Kielan LaMarr each recorded a hit, while Trent Clark scored a run after drawing a walk.

Dawson Lewis took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs (three earned) over three innings. Capital utilized five additional pitchers in relief as Ohio Northern continued to apply pressure offensively.

UP NEXT
The Comets will look to get off a three game skid on Sunday, Apr. 19, as they travel to Indiana to take on Wabash. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
