Baseball Falls to Muskingum in OAC Midweek Matchup

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Capital University baseball team dropped a midweek contest to Muskingum University by a final score of 23-4 on Wednesday afternoon at Huntington Park. With the loss, the Comets fall to 15-16 overall and 4-7 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Fighting Muskies see their record rise to 16-17 overall and 6-5 in OAC play.

Muskingum wasted no time getting on the board, plating two runs in the opening inning before erupting for six runs in the second to take an early 8-0 lead. The Muskies continued their offensive surge in the third, adding four more runs to extend the advantage to 12-0.

Capital responded in the bottom of the third when Charlie Colson lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Hutch Crociata, putting the Comets on the board. The offense showed more life in the fourth inning, scoring three runs behind RBI efforts from Crociata and Michael Andryszczyk, who drove in two with a single to center to cut the deficit to 12-4.

That would be as close as the Comets would get, as Muskingum answered with a five-run fifth inning and continued to add insurance throughout the game. The Muskies capped their scoring with a five-run ninth inning to secure the 23-4 victory.

Offensively, Capital tallied 10 hits on the afternoon. Ty Clifton led the way with a 2-for-5 performance, including a double, while Andy Gill added two hits of his own. Crociata contributed an RBI and scored a run, and Andryszczyk finished with a team-high two RBI.

On the mound, William Furry was charged with the loss after allowing eight runs (three earned) in 1.2 innings of work. Capital utilized six pitchers in the contest, with Kaleb Mullins providing 2.1 innings of relief while allowing just one run.
