Baseball Drops 10-2 Contest Against Alvernia

VERO BEACH, Fla. - The Capital University baseball team was back in action for day three of their spring trip at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach.  Taking on Alvernia University, who is receiving votes in the national poll, the Comets would fall by a score of 10-2.  With the loss, Capital now stands at 7-2 on the year.  Meanwhile, Alvernia rises to 3-1 to begin their season.

Both starting pitchers showed their prowess early, with no runs being scored in the first three innings of play.  It would be the Golden Wolves who broke the seal, scoring five runs on three hits in the top of the fourth to take a 5-0 lead.

The Comets would use an RBI double from Robby Harrison and an Alvernia error to score two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth, cutting the deficit to just three.

Some defensive miscommunications from the Comets in the top of the sixth, along with three hits, allowed Alvernia to answer back with three runs and extend their lead back to five runs.

Capital had a chance to respond in the bottom half of the sixth but would end up leaving the bases loaded and the score remained 8-2.  Runners left on base would be the story of the day for the Comets, as they would leave 14 runners stranded throughout the ballgame.

The Purple and White would be unable to muster any offense the remainder of the contest, going hitless in the final three frames.

Taking the loss on the mound was Noah Bromberg, who would go five innings, allowing seven runs on five hits and five walks.  He would finish his line with three strikeouts.

Tyler Bebout and Julian McCann would each throw two innings in relief to finish things off, both recording one strikeout in their appearances.

Michael Andryszczyk would lead the Comets on the offensive end, finishing with a team-high two base knocks, including one double.

Bryce Kyees would reach by way of a walk four times in the game, also scoring one run.

Matching his career-high total from yesterday's game, Charlie Colson would swipe another four bags, bringing his season stolen base total to a team-high 15.
