COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University softball team swept Baldwin Wallace for the first time since May 2, 2021 by taking today's doubleheader via 3-2 and 1-0 scores.
With the results, Capital improves to 10-8 overall and 2-2 in the OAC. BW falls to 7-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
GAME ONE: Capital def. BW, 3-2
The Comets got ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a rather lucky RBI single by
Megan Parry. Playing in front, the Comets tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third.
In that inning,
Kyleigh Kirby reached via an RBI single to score
Reagan Irons and
Megan Parry again came through with an RBI thanks to a sacrifice fly that scored
Autumn Bridges.
Ahead 3-0, the Comets rode some strong pitching between
Alyssa Miller and
Addi Parker to hold off the Yellow Jackets for a 3-2 final score.
Irons and Parry led the team with two hits each, while Bridges and Kirby accounted for the other two hits.
Miller earned the win, tossing 4.0 innings and allowing just one run on four hits and three walks with nine strikeouts. Parker picked up her second save in as many games, tossing 3.0 innings and allowing just one run on one hit with one strikeout.
GAME TWO: Capital def. BW, 1-0
The Comets again rode a solid effort of pitching in game two to defeat the Yellow Jackets by a narrow score of 1-0. The only run of the game came on an RBI double by
Kyleigh Kirby in the fifth inning that scored
Reagan Irons.
Other than that, the story was all about the combined shutout effort from
Megan Mlinaric and
Addi Parker. Mlinaric started and tossed 2.1 innings, allowing one hit and one walk with four strikeouts. Parker picked up the win, tossing 4.2 innings and conceding just three hits and a walk with four strikeouts as well.
Kirby led the offense in game two with a pair of hits, followed by Irons,
Autumn Bridges,
Ryanne Wilson, and
Emma Sweetman with one hit each.

The Comets will transition to non-conference play this week as they will travel to Bluffton for a 3:00 and 5:00 doubleheader on Tuesday, March 31st.
