ALBION, Mich. – The Capital University softball team ventured north to Albion College where they would split a pair of games with the Britons on Wednesday evening. The hosts took game one via a 4-2 final score before Capital responded with a 6-3 win in the nightcap.
Both teams remain with an even record this season as Capital is 8-8 and Albion is 10-10.
GAME ONE: Albion def. Capital, 4-2
The Britons moved in front in the bottom of the second inning, 1-0. That lead carried into the fourth inning where
Emma Sweetman hit an RBI double to the right center gap, scoring
Megan Parry to tie the game at 1-1.
Albion scored a pair of runs in the bottom half of that inning to build a cushion at 3-1, but Capital responded back on
Autumn Bridges' RBI single in the fifth to make it 3-2. Unfortunately for the Comets, Albion finished the scoring with an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-2, the eventual final score.
Five Comets collected hits, with Parry leading the team with two base hits.
Reagan Irons, Bridges, Sweetman, and
Lyndi Hemmelgarn each had one.
Megan Mlinaric started on the mound for Capital, throwing 4.1 innings and conceding three earned runs on nine hits and two walks.
Susan Gray pitched 1.2 innings of relief, not allowing a hit or a walk. The pair combined for three strikeouts.
GAME TWO: Capital def. Albion, 6-3
The Comets jumped out in front early of game two, scoring two runs in the top of the first after and RBI single by
Isabel Sayre and an RBI groundout by
Megan Parry.
That 2-0 lead would hold through to the fifth inning when the Comets added an insurance run via a squeeze bunt play by
Kyleigh Kirby that scored
Reagan Irons to make it 3-0.
Albion scored two of their own in the fifth, but the Comets tacked on more insurance in the sixth thanks to an RBI double by
Shelby Allen, an RBI single by
Autumn Bridges and an error.
Albion scored one more to make it 6-3 as a final score with the Comets moving back to .500 this season.
Ryanne Wilson led the team with two hits, joined in the hit column by Bridges, Sayre, and Allen.
Alyssa Miller earned the win in the pitcher's circle after going 5.1 innings and allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out seven.
Addi Parker earned a save in relief, maintaining the win over the final 1.2 innings.

Capital will return to Clowson Field on Saturday, March 28th as they host Baldwin Wallace at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader.
