DELAWARE, Ohio - The Capital University Comets baseball offense erupted for 16 runs on 14 hits as the Comets rolled past Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops baseball, 16-3, on Thursday afternoon at Littick Field.
Capital wasted no time getting on the board, plating three runs in the top of the first inning. After loading the bases,
Gio Mastrorosa drove in a run after being hit by a pitch, while
Robby Harrison followed with an RBI single to give the Comets an early 3-0 advantage.
Ohio Wesleyan responded with a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning, but Capital quickly answered. A sacrifice fly from
Charlie Colson in the second and a solo home run by Harrison in the third extended the Comet lead to 5-1.
The Battling Bishops cut into the deficit with two runs in the third inning, making it 5-3, but that would be as close as they would get. Capital broke the game open in the fifth inning, scoring four runs highlighted by RBI knocks from
Ty Clifton,
Trent Clark, and
Grayson Gulley to push the lead to 9-3.
From there, the Comets continued to pile on. Two more runs crossed in the sixth before a five-run seventh inning capped off the dominant performance. Clifton delivered another key hit with a two-RBI double, while
Michael Andryszczyk and Colson each drove in runs during the frame.
At the plate, Capital saw contributions throughout the lineup.
Kielan LaMarr led the way with three hits and four runs scored, while Clifton finished with a game-high four RBIs. Harrison added two hits, including his home run, and drove in two, while Andryszczyk tallied two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs.
On the mound,
Noah Bromberg earned the win in relief, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out three.
Will Furry got the start, and
Dawson Lewis closed out the final inning to secure the victory.
