Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Wooster in Home Opener

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead, but ultimately could not keep up with the College of Wooster in an eventual 18-8 loss in their home opener. 

The Comets are now 0-3 to start the season, while Wooster improves to 4-0. 

Three early goals by the Comets from Colton Woods, Charlie Howenstine and Evan Legner put Cap up 3-0 in under five minutes of play, but from there, the Scots out-scored Capital 18-5 over the final 55 minutes of play to leave Columbus with the win. 

Other goals by the Comets came from Aiden Evans (2), Kaison Durham, Jess Lipp and Elliott Rhoton

THE NUMBERS
Colton Woods led the offense with four points on a goal and three assists. He added one ground ball. 

Aiden Evans scored the first two goals of his Comet career to pair with a ground ball and a caused turnover. 

Charlie Howenstine ended with one goal, one assist and one ground ball. 

Jess Lipp had one goal and one assist to go with three ground balls and one caused turnover. 

Evan Legner had one goal, while Kaison Durham had a goal and a ground ball. 

Leelan Durham added one assist with his three ground balls. 

Freddy Noday and Tyler Lieu finished a combined 22-for-30 at the faceoff, with Noday going 12-of-17 with 10 ground balls and Lieu going 10-of-13 with seven ground balls. 

Gino Nave led the defense with two caused turnovers. 

Wyatt Stemler made nine saves in the cage for Capital to pair with three ground balls. 

UP NEXT
Capital will stay home at Bernlohr Stadium for their next three games, starting with a 1 p.m. faceoff vs. Centre on Saturday, March 7th. The team will then host Allegheny on March 8th and Wabash on March 11th.
