The Comets' Bats Continue to Shine | Sweep Day Two Against Asbury

Nicholasville, Ky. - The Capital University baseball team was back in action for the final two games of their opening weekend series with Asbury University.  The Comets offense was firing on all cylinders, taking game one by a score of 20-14, before completing the sweep with a 9-6 victory in game three.  Capital begins their season 3-0, the first time since 2020 they have won three straight to begin the season.

GAME ONE
Just like yesterday, the Comets got things started right away offensively, with Bryce Kyees hitting a solo shot in the top of the first inning.  The Eagles responded quickly, scoring three runs of their own in the bottom of the second to take a 3-1 lead.
Innings three through six would be controlled by Capital, outscoring Asbury 9-1 to make the score 10-4 heading into the seventh frame.  The Comets would leave the yard four times in this stretch, as Bryce Kyees added his second of the game along with Gio Mastroros, Grayson Gulley, and Kielan LaMarr.

Asbury would score four runs in the bottom of the seventh, but six runs in the eight and four more in the ninth would allow Capital to come away with the 20-14 victory.  The Comets would finish game one with 19 hits, seven of them being of the home run variety.

Kyees and LaMarr led the offense, each recording three hits and four RBIs.  For Kyees, this marks the first multi-homer game of his career.

Hitting his first career home run was sophomore Trent Clark, who sent a three-run blast over the left field wall in the ninth inning to help put the game on ice for the Comets.

Earning the win on the mound was Casey Wilkins, going 3.1 innings in relief, allowing four earned runs.  The senior struck out three on his way to earning his first win of the season.  Drew Pfundt, would finish the final 1.2 innings on the bump, striking out two and allowing just one run.

GAME TWO
For the first time in the series, it would be Asbury who jumped out in front first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second to take an early 2-0 lead.  Just like they have all series long, the Comets would respond, as freshman Hutch Crociata sent a solo shot over the left field wall for the first home run of his collegiate career.  Shortly after, junior Michael Andryszyk blasted a two-run shot to left center for his first career homer, giving the Comets a 3-2 advantage.

Two runs in the sixth on a Ty Clifton single and two more in the eighth on a base knock by Crociata gave the Comets a sixth run cushion.

The Eagles would manage to find their way back into the ballgame, cutting the deficit to just two heading into the final frame, but an RBI single from Kyees in the top of the ninth solidified the 9-6 victory.

Drew Stitt was nails in relief, earning the two inning save while allowing no runs and striking out three.  Earning his first career win was freshman Aidan Prenc, the Toronto native throwing three innings in relief.  He would allow just one run, also picking up a strikeout.

Kyees and Crociata would both finish with two hits each, with Kyees also adding one RBI and a walk while Crociata picked up three RBIs of his own.
