Columbus, Ohio – The Capital volleyball team fell to OAC opponent Heidelberg in three straight sets on senior night at Capital Center Arena, 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-18). After the loss, the Comets are 3-13 on the season.
Capital started off hot with a 4-0 lead in the opening set, but Heidelberg answered with an 8-0 run. Later in the set, the visitors scored seven straight points to secure a 21-8 lead and went on to win 25-10.
The second set started close with a 3-3 and 4-4 score until Heidelberg went on a six point run to lead 10-4. Capital hit a strong .273 in the set with service aces from Harris, Black, and Preocanin. However, Heidelberg did not commit a single attack error finishing with 18 kills in 22 attempts. Heidelberg went on to take the set 25-13.
The third set was the closest of the night with the score tied at 16-16 until Heidelberg scored 5 straights to lead 21-16. They finished out the sweep with a 25-18 sweep of the final set.
Cici Harris and
Ava Knight led the Comets with four kills and a .273 hitting percentage. Harris also added an ace and two solo blocks on the night. Setter
Carlee Thompson had 11 assists on the night, while
Shy Black led the team with seven digs and Knight added six digs.
