Three Comets Clinch OAC Weekly Honors

WESTERVILLE, OHIO – Following a successful weekend for Capital University's women's soccer and football teams, three Comets earned Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Player of the Week honors for their standout performances. Women's soccer junior Payton Childers was named OAC Offensive Player of the Week, while football senior AJ Adams earned Defensive Player of the Week and freshman Dominic Perella received Special Teams Player of the Week.

Junior Payton Childers and Capital women's soccer put together another 2-0 week, continuing their offensive momentum as the Comets outscored their opponents 12-1 across the two victories. Childers remained red-hot, recording two goals and two assists, matching the numbers that earned her OAC Offensive Player of the Week honors the previous week.

Beyond the stat line, Childers continued to make an impact in key moments for the Comets. She assisted on the game-winning goal against Heidelberg before scoring the game-winner against Mount Union to help secure another conference victory.

The recognition marks Childers' second consecutive OAC Offensive Player of the Week honor and the fourth OAC weekly award for Capital women's soccer this season. The Comets will look to keep their momentum going with two OAC matchups this week, traveling to Wilmington on Wednesday before heading to New Concord on Saturday to face Muskingum.

On the football field, Capital earned a road victory over Muskingum University, with two Comets receiving OAC weekly honors for their contributions to the comeback win.

Senior AJ Adams earned OAC Defensive Player of the Week after making a major impact on the defensive side of the ball as Capital rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat the Muskies, 36-25, earning its first win over Muskingum since 2018.

Trailing 19-7 to open the fourth quarter, Adams broke into the backfield and recorded a strip sack of the Muskingum quarterback before recovering the fumble at the 16-yard line. The turnover set up the Comets to score just three plays later.

Adams continued to make his presence felt on Muskingum's next drive, recording another sack for a six-yard loss on third down to force a punt. Capital then blocked the punt and recovered the ball in the end zone to take a 22-19 lead. Adams finished the game with five tackles, including three solo stops, two sacks for 11 yards lost, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

On special teams, freshman Dominic Perella earned his first career OAC weekly honor, being named Special Teams Player of the Week after delivering a game-changing play of his own.

With 10:05 remaining, Perella blocked a Muskingum punt, then recovered the ball in the end zone to give Capital a 22-19 lead, proving to be pivotal in the Comets' eventual 36-25 victory. Adams and Perella bring Capital football's total to three OAC weekly honors this season.

The Comets will return home this week to play inside Bernlohr Stadium, hosting the Mount Union Purple Raiders at 1:30 p.m.
