STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball team opened up the 2026 calendar year with a 92-74 loss on the road at Franciscan University on Saturday. The difference in the game proved to be in two key areas – 3-point shooting and number of free throws. The Barons held major advantages in both areas, outshooting Capital from beyond the arc as they knocked down 11-of-21 from deep while the Comets converted just 3-of-20. At the line, Capital shot just 13 total free throws, converting 11 of them, but Franciscan cashed in 25 of their 34 free throw attempts.
On the season, Capital is now 6-7 overall. Today's contest was their final non-conference tilt of the season with the remaining 12 games coming in the OAC. Franciscan sits 8-2 overall after today's win.
The Comets did shoot the ball very well from inside the arc, knocking down 27-of-41 from close range – a 65.8% clip. This mark led to a solid 49.2% in total from the floor. With their 11-for-13 from the stripe, Capital shot 84.6% in that category as well.
In total,
Se'Ron Calloway-White led the team with 20 points – his third consecutive 20+ game. He added two rebounds, three assists and one steal.
Cade Davies and
Dallas Tucker each netted 11 points off the bench. Davies added three boards, while Tucker contributed three rebounds, one assist and a steal.
McKane Finkenbine netted 10 points to go with one rebound, one steal and a game-high seven assists. The game marked the fourth time this season that Finkenbine dished out seven or more assists.
Chris Mitchell rounded out the double-digit scorers in the game, finishing with 10 points while adding six rebounds and two steals.
Kamran Ensley was the leading rebounder with eight boards. He also chipped in two points, joined by
Julian Mitchell (2),
Tristyn Ambrose-Pearce (6), and
Deron Jennings (2) in the scoring column.
